LIVERPOOL rebel Javier Mascherano faced a furious backlash in training yesterday.
Senior Reds players were stunned when the Argentina midfielder apparently refused to play at Manchester City on Monday night.
The Barcelona target then trained on his own at Melwood the morning after the 3-0 trouncing.
Kop boss Roy Hodgson revealed last Thursday he planned to use Mascherano in the crunch match at City.
But he had to rip up his tactics on Monday afternoon when he discovered Mascherano was in no fit state to play.
A club source said: "The manager was thinking of a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Lucas and Mascherano as the holding midfielders.
"But he had to have a complete rethink and go with a 4-4-2.
"The senior players at the club were seriously hacked off with Mascherano on Monday night and that was clear when he arrived back on Tuesday.
"There are players in that squad who are Liverpool through and through and they were fuming at what Mascherano did."

It's fascinating how you still want to handle Gleb to Liverpool, although it seems that they don't want him anyway
On the other hand, it's crazy how we spend 25 millions for Dmytro Chigriynski, but a money of the same region are too much for a player, who is one of the best in the world at his position. (and a player who Pep sees as a final piece of the puzzle)

Daily Fail says today that Liverpool want £18m cash in a single payment made immediately, I don't believe that for a moment because if that were the case surely the deal would be done by now?

we made a bid of £18m+gleb which was rejected, so yeah, that's balls.
pep has said he wants a DM, and then the team will be complete. so if this falls apart we'll haveta look elsewhere, but as I suspected he is confident in the cantera backing every position up except DM.
badger is worth €30m minimum, anything less than that is a bargain. dude is so utterly world-class.
as for the striking, it's not nice but then he's tried nicely to get a move away from liverpool for over a year now and it hasn't worked. plus let's be honest, he's not gonna do it to us because his wife isn't gonna be unhappy in barcelona which is the core reason for his wanting to leave.
