Of course he played a role, that's obvious. However how many times did Stegen stand on his head to keep us in games that season? How many incredible defensive performances did we have to squeeze out 1-0 wins or close ties we should of lost?

A lot of very crucial goals were scored by other players in major games too. If you dont understand that our defense and goalie carried us to that title then I don't know what else to tell you.

And that expensive signing stuck us with a player in his mid thirties on the biggest salary in La Liga and who has done nothing but decline rapidly from the moment we signed him.

Most old players are far too concerned with their own wage packets and pending retirement to give a fuck about helping the next generation. Footballers are selfish like that.

In a different manner, it's similar to United fans thinking bringing in RVN is somehow gonna turn Hojlund and Rashford from average finishers into Gerd Muller. They will improve a bit but coaching doesn't perform miracles.

The issue is the length of his contract. 2, even 2 + optional 1 and it's a good transfer. We just gave him too long of a contract, which in the end makes the deal mediocre, I agree.
