24 - Eric García

Thanks for clarifying, thought it was his son. /s

on a more serious note, this was the first time I've seen him. Do you reckon his ceiling is higher than that of Inaki?

Inaki is only 27, hard to imagine him having a 19 years old son. ;)

From what I've read he's highly rated than Inaki but I've also expected Inaki to become an even better player than he is today. I guess you can only improve so much while staying at Bilbao. I really respect loyalty that Basque players show to their clubs (Athletic or Sociedad) but some of them should really move on to better clubs to further their careers imo.

He (garcia)is another 'low-tempo' player, and god, we have enough of those types of players already

Our team is being filled with guys who can dominate tempo if the opponent lets them but crumble when pressed high and when the opponent puts pressure on them. Right now, if we were to compare our defense with the best strikers around the world, is a guy like Garcia going to mark Haaland, Lukaku, Lewandowski, Kane, or Vardy as said above? He's small and slow rn and it's not a good combination for a CB, he needs to at least put some muscle so he can deal with heavy strikers.

Spot on. Low tempo defense might work when you have insane offense and teams are afraid to press you, but current Barcas offense hardly any opponent is afraid.

That was always our DNA, those type of players.

The thing is: those players are mostly average.
EXCEPT when we had a golden generation of Xavi-Iniesta-Messi to lift those choirboys on top inspite of their flaws.
Or in 2006 when we had Ronnie-Etoo-Messi.
Or MSN in 2015.

Barca DNA was always the same.
Barca DNA alone doesn't work without several geniuses in a team like Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, Ronnie or Etoo.

But over the years, media and part of fans started to make a story how Barca DNA ALONE is what brings victories (and how we need to go back to our roots = Barca DNA).
But today is a perfect example what you get when you only have Barca DNA (Pique, Garcia, Alba, Roberto, Busi, Puig, Alena etc) without superstars and geniuses.
You are left with beyond mediocre, slow and outdated players and style.

But hey, it worked in 2010' :mou:

But it worked because of geniuses, not because of Puigs and Garcias.

Yep. Our game looks like someone who tried to copy prime Barca with shit players.

We should forget the whole golden generation for good and start new era. New style too.

Not that every player we have is shit but for example they might be in the wrong role, not good fit for the team, not good enough or simply past it.

The whole team needs to be built from a scratch again..

There isn't a forward in world football who would get the ball, see Eric Garcia in the defensive line, and be intimidated.

This guy was always gonna be DOA.

If you want to cover up Garcia's flaws you will have to have a CB like Araujo and two fullbacks who aren't shit defensively.

Right now a Backline with Dest-Pique-Garcia-Alba is a fucking nightmare. Two fullbacks who can't defend and are both similar in terms of attributes and two CBs who are also similar in attributes. And to make matters worse we have a DM who is also slow and weak trying to protect said CB pair as well.

This!
Thanks for bringing this up!
The worst combination against pressing sides is having two CBs that are not atheltic and fast (call me Garcia, Pique, Lenglet),
combined with 2 fullbacks that might be fast but horrendous at defending..

IF we then go into the md deparment, a player like Busi there, whom such a game bypasses by definition, the flaws above are augmented twice as much

Koeman should have changed things already in the 20th minute, seeing this spectacle

This guy is absolutely terrible, can't believe he's our first choice at CB

A player who started for Spain at the Euros, was highly rated by Pep and played really well on his debut is now suddenly ''absolutely terrible'' because of one bad game? I swear this forum is THE most reactionary place on the internet.

To be fair to Garcia there's not much CB's that can match the William brothers for pace. He also lost his grandfather just before the game iirc.

It's not one bad game.
He was systematically exposed at City whenever facing attackers with pace.
His package is obsolete for football at the highest level in 2021
