If we want Bellerin we will need to splash the cash for him.

I doubt Wenger is content with us trying to use a 30(Soon 31) year old injury prone CB as a barging chip to lower the price of Bellerin.

The thing is, we don't actually need 5 CBs for 2 places...it's more than enough to have 4, first and 2nd CB pair. We only had 5 now, because we panicked 2 years ago and went for quantity instead of quality in Mathieu and Vermaelen, because we chased Thiago Silva and/or Marquinhos the whole summer, and of course didn't have a realistic chance in getting them. Then the media and fans pressure monuted as we were nearing the end of the transfer window and we got and overpaid average players. That's why i'm loving this summer, i much rather have 1 top, soon to be world class CB in Umtiti than 2 mediocre ones or not even that in Mathieu and Vermaelen. They don't cut it against Umtiti in terms of quality even together. Hell, most top clubs, including Madrid, play mainly with 3 CBs, like we would with Pique, Masch and Umtiti, while the 4th plays the occasional 'Granada' or 'Leganes' match plus 3-4 starting matches of Copa, which makes it maybe 1-2 matches/per month, at least until the New Year, after that not even that, assuming our defence manages to stay away from injuries. And for that Mathieu is more than enough for now. I would however sell him next summer and then bring in another CB, but we have a whole year to look at the best option until then.

I knew it all from the beginning.. all these reports about offers are just pathetic attemps to commercialize the player.. we used media outlets to do so.. the reality of things.. even for free i doubt many would come knocking the door for him
