Rumours are about 19m... way too much but I guess that´t the price you have to pay for an injury prone, past prime, average defender.

Someone said he started less games than Puyol last season, and he can´t get past Mertesacker at Arsenal... if that´s what you want to pay 19m for, you´ve got too much money to play with.

Even after all that has happened we still cheaped out on CBs. Why didnt we pay Laporte's buyout clause when it was lower? Instead of paying 36m+taxes for one of the brightest CB prospects we end up with an injury prone Arsenal benchwarmer a club whose players have such a great track record for us.
That said i hope this doesnt turn out to be a disaster and TV does well for us.

Mertesacker was one of the best CBs in the league last season though and he had a better partnership with Koscielny.
It is only 19m if the club win the CL.
Again.... Van Gaal, Lucho and Wenger all wanted him for next season so clearly he is not as bad as you are making out.

Wenger is willing to sell him so why do you think he still wants him? And he bought Chambers as a CB apparently... Van Gaal needs a shitload of CB´s because he plays with 3 per game. Vermaelen might be a good squad player, but his injury proneness and pricetag just doesnt make him so appealing to me.

He was out long-term and Mertesacker created a great partnership with Koscielny so it was hard to break back into the squad.

Wenger is willing to sell him as he is in his last year of his contract and wont discuss signing a new one.
He bought Chambers knowing full well Vermaelen would be leaving and because he can cover more than one position.
