24 - Thomas Vermaelen

The last two gifts Zubi left to the club are Douglas and Vermaelen. Sums up perfectly the quality of Andoni's work at the club.

Zubi and Rosell brought in Neymar. If they had to buy half a dozen players, throw away five of them, wind up with just Neymar, that is a legendary success.

Bringing in Neymar for less than 100M euros is the best acquisition made by any club since RM bought CR7. I can't think of a third transfer in recent times anywhere near as significant as these two. Neymar is still years away from his peak.

Suarez was also a really big acquisition. He is clearly much better for Barca than any other recent forwards not named Messi or Neymar, though whether his huge cost was a bargain is not yet clear. It's still early days for Suarez with this team.

Signing Neymar when all he wanted was to play for the club of his dream and when "Neymar" is the most famous name in America is not something that require special skill or intelligence for a sports director. Any other one could've sign those two players and probably with less problem .

If they deserve credit for any possible success in the end of this season, then what do they deserve for the last two horrible seasons that the club lived ? Credit ?

What Zubi and the staff have done in the last years is shit and the players they bought last summer was the minimum they could've done knowing the quality of their work in the past years.

Yet half of this forum seemed to be crucifying the club for over spending on an over hyped Neymar who had proved nothing in europe.

Now this transfer is portrayed as if it was all fact Neymar was going to be great and would succeed all the club needed to do was take him to the club of his dreams...

You are still avoiding the question.... who deserves credit for this squad?

Mate you're not asking the right question, this is why I'm not answering.
The credit goes to the coaching staff and the players for their hard work. You didn't consider the eventuality of failing this season.
If we don't win any trophy, will you say that the problem comes from the coaching staff (Lucho, Unzue etc) and the players or from Zubizarreta ?

I'm asking that because I didn't hear anything from you concerning last season (particularly) . Were you saying that the failure mainly came from the players/coach or from Zubizarreta for not buying any important player to strenghten the squad ?

Who deserves credit for bringing them in?

By that standing Laporta deserves no credit for his time? It was all down to 'coaches and players'.

I have said loads of times that the club like almost all clubs that have success have clung on to the past. As all succesful clubs seem to do. In general it does usually take 2/3 years for things to change.

@fiazhamsath 3 min

MD reports Vermaelen's recovery has stalled after having sore muscle. He had started running few days ago, but now forced to stop.

Something tells me he will leave without playing a single league game for us. It's not his fault but it's a bit of a dire situation. I wish him well even if that doesn't mean anything.
