Don't you think he was too slow to reach the ball for the penalty too? I mean it's technically not a mistake either, just that he's old and slow as fuck.
The red card against Madrid was not necessary. Against Bilbao he also had a major sweeping mistake that, again, didn't cost us but easily could have if Inaki Williams exploited it well.
So, as for now - the only game without any mistake that did or could have cost the team for him remains the game against 4th division team Barbastro.
On the other hand, Peña has very few games in which he made such mistakes. In fact, I don't recall any but would rather believe there is some I don't remember now which is understandable as he played most of our games this season.
Peña should be the starting goalkeeper. Maybe he is not elite, maybe he is not the best in the world but this season he's very, very good. Dropping him because he was late for a few meetings (or whatever it was) is disrespectful and meaningless because the other keeper is not better than him.
Valid points and I respect your view.
I guess its pretty obvious he is not used to the high line defensive set up which may be an explanation for some of his reluctant reaction to opponents breaking the offside lines. He said that much himself. But how else does a player who joined a few months ago from retirement get accustomed to playing in an established system if he does not play that regularly.
In the Supercopa final, that run was the best option if only he managed to curtail his outstretched leg. No goalkeeper worth his salt would have remained on his line.....and if he came out too early there certainly woul have been a collision with his players who were still trying to deal with Mbappe's run towards the goal. I repeat, that was the best option and he did well.
Keepers make mistakes, even the one regarded as the best in last 10 years or so(Manuel) does have multiple holwers in a single match.
I was never a fan of Tek and was not in support when he was proposed(I preferred a younger option) but I wouldn't go as far as saying he is worse than Pena under these few samples....having seen what Pena could do even when not under pressure. The look on their respective faces on the pitch when under pressure should give you an idea which one is more comfortable and more confident.
Take it from me, Tek is better.....he just needs aome match accustomisation and improved communucation with his defenders.
...and this is coming from someone who said 5 months ago that Williams was not worth the 60m and not a good for choice for Barca....when the euphoria was high....who said months ago that the more problematic FB position for Barca was the RB and not LB everyone else was harping on
