If there is something to win this season and I trust there is, you need to have a goalkeeper with a decent resume to go through tough and crucial encounters. Szczęsny has it, and Pena does not. In such tough and crucial encounters, these classy goalkeepers live up to their reputation and show their better sides, rather than their flaws.

I don't really go in for mystical narratives. Particularly since it is in fact his "courage" for the crucial heroic actions that is leading to the mistakes. He also got himself sent off in a Clasico Super Cup final btw. Not the smallest of occassions. But I suppose that doesn't count since we won anyway.

Inexplicable really to continue with him in a goal when he’s chronically making errors

Wonder if there is a rift with Iñaki

Well, all we know is Pena came late one day and from then onwards Wojchek has been the starter.

On the outside it looks like Flick was waiting for a justification to bench Pena.

It's hard to say who should start because Pena was fine for us when he played and pretty solid if not spectacular, whilst Szczesny has been worse in his stint in goal.

Possibly Flick prefers to rely on the experience as we are going into a crucial part of the year.

Ter Stegen in a wheelchair would be faster off his line, and probably blocks one on ones better too.

Stegs in a wheelchair is probably better than Stegs fully fit infact.

Seems to me he's very loyal to his boys which is probably why ter Stegen is also so attached.

The decision to bet on Szczęsny ahead of Iñaki Peña is Hansi Flick's. In fact, the goalkeeper coach, José Ramón de la Fuente, was more in favor of continuing with Peña as a starter in La Liga. @fansjavimiguel

This is an area for the Entorno to double down on because clearly something is going on internally to see the Pole in goal over Iñaki

Perhaps a way to motivate but as Pena is also entering final 12M, it will be a source of distraction

It seems flick is preparing tek for crucial encounters, believing his brainfarts are things of consistency. Flick ( and all of us deep down) know that Pena is a disaster waiting to happen when we need him the most. Tek would grow in confidence i believe and might be the important part of our cl path

If Flick wants to continue using him, he needs to set up these situations in training against Rafa and practice it 100 times daily. But since Woj never played this style, I fear it won't help much.
Woj is the bigger risk, but also the bigger potential reward. Flick has definitely balls to keep counting on him, because if we get knocked out of the CL or Copa because of Woj's mistakes, the blame will be on Flick.

don't feel confident with this guy as the gk. Pena was looking decent recently, really don't understand the change.
