5 - Iñigo Martínez

He was hyped as realistic target who will cost us reasonable amount of money ,one of the main arguments about Martinez that he is a realistic option who won't cost much as other over hyped players like Hummels etc
now it seems that Sociedad has set the price too high for the players they are selling ,think fans should scratch his name out of their wish list

After Illarramendi's transfer, I doubt Sociedad would sell Martinez as well unless it's for an unreasonable fee.

I knew we would have to activate his buyout clause, VAT and income taxes before Illarramendi impressed at the U21 Euros.

Real Sociedad isn't looking to make any deals. Perez tried and they told him pay the full buyout clause or no deal. They just pocketed a cool 30M.

Well nobody is linking him to us anymore so i guess there is little to no chance that we are going to sign him?

you got me confused using hype there... I thought he might have done something stupid lately thereby decreasing his hype or so I thought you meant :p

Every team is going to see Barcelona coming and overcharge us because of our desperation for a defender.

Personally I never wanted Thiago Silva (expensive and 29 y/o), David Luiz (Mascherano is better).
Martinez is a starter for Sociedad and one of the main reasons they're in the CL this year. He's a Spainard so lining up regularly with Pique is only going to make him better for club and country. The main kicker is even if we spent 30 million on him, at 22 that's a 10+ year investment. Working with Puyol (who is really similar to) is only going help him reach his full potential.

Sociedad have a chance to do well in the CL and his value is only going to go up so we can probably kiss this transfer goodbye

Well, the amount of effort we've seen from the board in signing a CB is not exactly what I call "desperation". More like the desperation of the fans rather than the club.

And overspending was not the only issue in this case. They didn't even sign Vergini who was a free agent. The board acted too arrogantly in this regard that it overshadows the overspending and the desire to get a new CB. They're acting this way for 3 seasons now.

The kid has a 30m buyout clause and this will only go up if RS decide to renew his contract. That ofcourse if the player agree..Anyway if we are keeping tabs on him i believe with our dissapointing lack of scouting the right thing was to wait, see how he performs in CL and then make a move.

True, it is mostly fans and the media but it seems odd we can clearly see what we need while management doesn't (i.e. playing 2 attacking fullbacks, Pedro still starts matches, need for a CB).

Surprised noone mentioned Inigo after our midweek match vs. Sociedad.
Despite their defeat at Camp Nou, the youngster had a fine game.

If the pric is right I wouldn't mind us going after him next summer.
