I watched them play side by side for the youth national team along with the likes of Thiago, Isco, Illaramendi, Tello, Muniain, Montoya, etc. and Bartra was the more solid CB and as a result has 3 times as many caps for the senior NT.

Inigo Martinez rumors are back.

Sport saying Valverde is interested in bring him in and local paper Noticias de Gipuzkoa saying the same.

They mention things will start rolling once Neymar leaves, as we intend to straight pay for his release clause in a couple of weeks. Valverde is very keen on him and requested the board to sign him.

Their were strong rumors City wanted him as well.

Makes no sense.

Is he not convinced by Marlon then? Disappointing if true.

Don't Lucho it again by giving EV every player he wants.

Inigo is a Left footed CB as well. Does Valverde want two pairs of RCB and LCBs? I'm guessing Marlon will be sent on loan and Verm sold then.

Why are we going after a 26 CB when when we have Yerry Mina 22 - Marlon 21 - Santiago Bueno 18 - Jorge Cuenca 17? Unless Mache is leaving there is really no point in getting Martinez. Pique still can give at the very least two more good seasons.

macherano is aging and we don't know how he will turn out to be in a very long season. That leaves with Pique and ummitit. Any one of them gets injured thats a big responsibility on marlon's shoulders.

Would Inigo take a bench position here though? He's not young anymore as he's 26 years old, and he's not really good enough to be a nailed on starter here.

The only way this signing makes any sense is if Valverde experiments with three at the back or he rotates the CB positions like Lucho did.

Isn't inigo just a worse version of pique?
like not the best defender is more better at playing from the back?

I would say he's a Bartra level talent. Not horrible by any means but not really exciting at all, just middle of the road level talent. He will do the job if needed but not someone you would want as a starter for a top team like ours.

He's good at playing out the back.

This is silly. Inigo is nothing special. Valverde needs to take a back seat now. Cant just sign the personal favorites of the new coach every season when they have tunnel visions and want players they've coached or know personally. We need to take a long term approach for once, for the good of the club. Coaches are replaced almost every year and we cant be stuck with huge amounts of deadwood requested by various coaches of the past.

Now that I think about it.

if we buy Inigo he would be the most expensive CB we have ever bought. Real Sociedad would force us to pay his buyout clause which is set at 32 million euros.
