5 - Iñigo Martínez

Would rather spend the money on Sanchez or a different younger CB. Pique and Umtiti have a couple years of top football together. Doesn't make sense signing him.

As I said before I consider him a Bartra level talent, not bad but not exactly lighting the world on fire great.

Just weird that we are considering to pay his buyout clause of 32 Million when he's not going to be a starter. He would be the most expensive CB we have bought but a rotational option at best. Valverde wanted him at Bilbao but La Real wouldn't sell him and he would have cost to much money.

I seen some Bilbao fans hoping this happens so if we flog him off one day they would get him.

Snippet says we are considering paying his buyout clause.

Fuck this shit.

Not this again. Giving our coaches players they want no matter how average they are

I'm actually surprised we aren't linked with more Basque players since Valverde became our manager. either way I just don't like the idea of spending this much money on a average CB, especially one that is 26 years old.

I won't be too butthurt if we end up getting him, after all, Valverde has been trying to buy him for years now so I guess he sees a role for him. But I would be still baffled because we have Yerry Mina coming next year.

Makes no sense.
I expect Verm to probably leave but this signing would hurt the chances of Marlon and even Yerry Mina who's supposedly coming next year. Unless Valverde plans on keeping Marlon around even if we signing Martinez.

You know, I don't care anymore.

We're gonna squander these 222 millions.

Gonna get dicked by Liverpool not willing to sell Coutinho, then get dicked by PSG signing Seri, and end up doing something even more retarded than that.

This board and management.....

No hopes. All what I feared is coming true now. We took weeks to sign Semedo and now we're in August still only having signed Semedo, and now lost our LW in Neymar, and there's still no news, no movement seemingly going on.

And what will our next signing be? Apparently a 26 year old CB who's at a level of a slightly better Bartra who's going to cost 32m while we have Marlon and Mascherano still in the squad as CBs.

I can't remember the last time I was this pessimistic.

Isn't his clause like 35Mil only. It's not that bad. Verm leaves and we will have.

Pique/Umtiti/Marlon/Iñigo and Masch. Who knows what the coach has planned for Masch though? Maybe he wants to play him back in DM for rotation

I remember the original rumor from a couple of months ago, saying we were really interested in Inigo, but the idea of signing him was put on hold due to the amount of money La Real wanted for him.

Now I wouldn't be surprised when the moment we knew Neymar was going to leave Valverde and Robert etc decided to go ahead in signing him since we now have the cash.

Makes sense actually. We need 2 in form CBs at any given time during the season. Marlon is young and inexperienced. Umtiti is solid but needs more experience. Masch is inconsistent. Pique is solid but can lose focus.

Having Martinez will:
1. Increase the likelyhood of having 2 in forms at any time
2. Make it easier to play with 3 cbs if needed
3. Can be groomed to become potentially a starter in the next year or two
4. Will pressure Pique to focus

It's 2013 all over again, I thought we got over this guy m.
Apparently Valverde was the one that requested him. Valverde has apparently been fond of him but he couldn't bring him to Bilbao since you know he plays for Real Sociedad.

Kinda weird since he's left footed and Laporte is not only younger but a much better talent than Inigo ever was.

Only reason that I can think of why we are buying him is that Valverde is going to try 3 CB's. Or maybe Valverde just thinks Masche is too old and Marlon too inexperienced. Anyway, If Valverde truly wants him I'm ok with this.
