And again he doesn't do it. Malcom who hasn't played a lot this season took matters into his own hands and carried the attack on the pitch while Coutinho looks like a player who doesn't want any of that responsibility.

The thing is Coutinho has always had phases like this even at Liverpool. Sky sports and the British media hype up players to the point where you think you're getting the next Messi.

He was superb throughout 16/17 but other times he has had shaky spells. I remember watching him live at Wembley when Villa played Liverpool, he scored early and then after that was utter shit, and we were awful that season bar the FA cup run.

He does have the ability to be brilliant but the truth is when the going gets tough he hides. The circumstances behind his arrival weren't exactly ideal either, just brought in to replace a Brazilian superstar with another to save the Barca from turmoil.
