8 - Pedri

How many great through balls does this guy attempt each game? He is adding things to his portfolio all the time.

One (1) very obvious one yesterday? One run and one gap, the pass plays itself, he only did well technically to turn and pass it correctly.
He also slightly missed one pass on the foot of an inside run, I like these passes that he has started to make a lot, but they have mostly been slightly off.

I think your overreaching on what the Napoli players were thinking of what Pedri would do in those actions.

For each the better option was to the right. If anything Pedri had the space open up because they needed to anticipate the danger of Adama as he was having his way on counters and already assisted.

Anyways not a gripe, happy he attempted them because the scoreline justified the attempts. Just will need to learn when to take it and when to continue the quick counter with the logical pass. Like the example, De La Pena had the best range of passing of his whole Masia generation but lacked the nuance of when to use.

Lastly didn't want to turn this into Pedri vs Puig, hence the disclaimer, just pointing out that it would have been Puigs trademark to take those right sided passes.

Puigs trademarks are back passes straight to opponents

Nah it is a fact that teams will keep closer tabs on the better players and they were tight on Pedri knowing he can open game up.

Puig cant and just passes ball about with little threat. He would have been passing it to Traore with opposition shuffling across and covering Adama more easily.

Pedri will take ball and has awareness of options. Puig just passes it to first free man he sees and has next to no awareness of full pitch.

Much easier to defend and would be same situations in game for each.
