8 - Pedri

When used properly he's a special talent, happy xavi made the adjusted from game 1 to 2, he'll have some poor games but that goes with growing as a young player.

Like he plays for Spain, deeper and linking the lines not standing waiting to only complete attacking movements.

He was the midfield general yesterday, not standing outside the opposition box waiting for the ball.

He is faster too. Look at this run.

Those bicep curls look good.

Go from 27 passes vs Rayo to 71 passes vs Sociedad. 17 of his passes are final third passes.

So if Xavi still ignores the midfield, at least play Pedri in Xavi's role.

He doesnt play like he did yesterday for Spain...

He plays higher up the park and holds position more. It is Busquets the one on ball from deep and someone between them most often.

Pedri was very much the AM at Euros etc.

Folk just make up the most random shit to try and suit a narrative.

Freedom in midfield and not to be waiting for ball from Busi too often or having to cover for Busis deficiencies off the ball also.

Neither will get best from him.

Needs to be first pass more often than is with Busi and being allowed to play his own game without worry about folk slowing game down to own speed and barely being able to run.

Yeah the DMC should liberate the two mids, not the other way round.

The irony is that Busi was the support for Xavi/Ini in his prime and even for Raki/Ini in the treble season. And never the main conductor as he has become In the last year or two.

Now we just need to see Gavi get his game together again. For me he is struggling to adapt to his role when on the lig h with Pedri, and being the 2nd midfielder of the duo. Doesn't help when he is pressed next to Lewa either with a lack of game influence.

That's what he is, a great talent, not a world class player. Let's make that clear. He's borderline top 10 midfielders in the world, but he has a long way to go to breach top 3-5. He's special when you look at his age, but he can't be compared to players like De Bruyne, Gundogan, Bernardo, Kroos, Modric, Verratti, Thiago, Kante, Kimmich, Valverde.

Pedri needs a solid run of 10/15 games though. His past season was so broken that he didn't get to develop as much as he could have.

20 in a few months time so no longer the new rookie on the block, but a full fledged first teamer. His game is completely different to guys like Bruyne, Fede and Kante but I'd say his potential is as high (or higher). Thiago at his age for example was flashy, but his game was much less complete.

What? I am very appreciative of Valverde in the last year. His progress has been impressive.

Currently one of the 5 players I'd have at Barca.

He shuts their right side down, offensively (their right wing is literally dead) and defensively. Nothing more, nothing less.

Nothing that qualifies him to be in the same sentence as de Bruyne, Modric...

He's farther down the top 10 list of CM/AMs, but ahead of Pedri. De Bruyne would be probably no1, so not a fair comparison.

Valverde has end product. A very good shot, good attacking instincts, good pace, good tenacity, a good delivery in the box in terms of crossing, pretty complete player if you ask me. Of course he will never be main playmaker in the team but that's not his role anyway, he's mostly an off the ball player, rarely sits on the ball and plays quickly and decisively. More of a Rakitic type, who is already almost as good as prime Rakitic.

He hit 31.1 km/h here, not that fast
