Why not play him in Xavi's role??? Lad gonna kill it. He needs to touch the ball more than anyone else

If you think these are similar you are daft - they are polar opposites.

Xavi got the ball while pressured, lifted it over the presser and released it perfectly for a player facing forwards, with both space and time.
Pedri got the ball completely open, had a bad first touch, then he just threw it up the air and felt forced to just release the ball since the opponent got to him, and he got it to a player 50/50 duel, with the ball in the air and a lot of opponents nearby.

Since Pedri is pretty bad still without the ball, he won't touch it much more than he does (sometimes only 30 times per game), and it is a good thing for Barcelona that he does not, since his decisions are still pretty bad. He gets the ball from good positions to worse positions a lot. He sometimes finds killer balls, but too rarely for my liking.

Not even a bad first touch. Rayo's player immediately tried to press Pedri and he did a flick to get away from presser. Notice that presser used his hands to drag Pedri. Xavi did similiar thing, except with Pirlo behind him. Their tecnique are similiar.

He is good without the ball and need to touch it as much as possible

He was better as the half went along, but he had to abandon the higher starting position and sink deeper and slotted some beautiful passes that could have ended in goal. He got more involved.

Best placed to play Busi role probably if given chance but needs bit more freedom than that as a sole DM.

MATS probably better than Busi at DM at this point though and more mobile.

From deep... Pedri completed the most dribbles. Pedri completed the most passes. Pedri won the most duels. That goes along with 3 tackles, 9 accurate long balls and 7 recoveries.

As th tweet goes.

But lets get Busi back in midfield to run the show from deep eh!

Need that 83% pass accuracy and most times caught on ball back in side. That 0-0 with Rayo needs to be the template!
