9 - Robert Lewandowski

If Lewandowski performs and carries on his Bayern form at Barca then the rationale for bringing Messi back in 2023 becomes much weaker. Conversely, if Lewa turns into what Lukaku was for Chelsea then Messi can be sold as the saviour returning to help Barca rise from the ashes.

This is a proxy war for Leo 2023 and Messi diehards have a vested interest in seeing Rob fail.

Ifkr. I called it the moment the Lewy to Barca rumours started. People are waiting desperately for him to fail.

Has nothing to do with Messi. Doubt Messi care about that. If he wins World Cup, i can see him playing another season for PSG then go to MSL.

For some, it is about Leo.

Lewandowski scores for fun and Barca competes for all titles again = the narrative about Messi carrying Barca for all those years and being the only reason we did not finish midtable etc. goes out the window. 34 year Lewa bossing Liga diminishes Leo's achievements in the eyes of insecure fanboys.

Saw the same thing with Ronaldo fanboys when he left Madrid and Juve. They wanted those clubs to rot just to prove their man was the GOAT and sole reason for team success.

Couldn't have said it any better.

How does Lewa scoring for fun and carrying Barca to titles...diminish Messi scoring for fun (17/18 and 18/19) and carrying us to titles? Why does Lewa's achievement discount Messi's 100 goals and 40 assists in 2 seasons under EV, for example. Messi also had the same mileage on his legs back then at 31/32 as Lewa does now at 34.

You have some good points, but while you preach "objectivity", there is a clear anti-Messi bias in your logic above.

Do you ignore all of Ronaldinho's achievements here??? What about Cruyff's etc... Daily remind you that their successor are way superior. Does that make their achievements worse???

Of course not.

No matter what happen, it doesn't change Messi's achievements and the fact he did carry the whole team on his own.

It doesn't diminish any of Messi's achievements obviously. It's the weird psych of some of his fanboys. Some of them think it'll make their narrative weaker and RL9 thriving and leading will make it look less impossible.

Let's be fair, Barca is like Messi's territory after all these years.

How do you come to this conclusion?

Nothing lewa does will affect Messi's status, Messi will. Forever be what he is & lewa will forever be lesser than that.

It absolutely does not diminish what Leo did for Barca, without a doubt the greatest player in the club's history.

However, that is beside the point. The types of people that glorify footballers into gods are not the rational types. They are petty, insecure and vindictive.

Barca failing post-Messi only adds to his legacy in their minds. Early last season when the club was in shambles you had the usual suspects come to the forum and boast about how they warned this is what would happen to club without Messi. Conveniently they disappeared when we had the 2 month stretch of incredible football and results in the 2nd half of the season.

Lewandowski is seen in an adversarial light after the 2021 Ballon D'or feud and him becoming the new poster boy of Barca and succeeding would hurt them in the same way somebody that broke off a long term relationship with a girl would feel seeing her with a better man living a better life.
