Gavi doesn't understand a word of English? He's what, 18? How is that even possible? Don't they teach it at schools?

Not always

In Europe, 91% of students in primary and secondary school study English[1]. Spain is no exception, where students begin their English education in the first grade of ?primaria?, or primary school. In the first grade, students are 6 years old. They continue learning English all through secondary school, where they also need to select a second foreign language. When graduating from secondary school the students are 16 years old, which marks the end of the compulsory education. This means that Spanish children learn English in school for a total of 10 years.

So he's part of the 9% that didn't hence not always

Have a wonderful day Joan.

You're welcome
That's Europe. In Spain it's 0.4%. So it's technically possible.

You too Gician.

Well, there is still always quality of education and then there is student motivation. South America proclaims to teach English in schools but the overall level is very uneven.

Even so, Lewa's been learning Spanish for a few months at best. Gavi probably learning English for 10 years. It's surprising tbh. That's all.

Knows nothing? Weird stuff.

He was a sheep herder in some village, when they found him and saw his ball of dung kicking talent on the pasture.

The quality of teaching varies greatly between countries and cultures. In Northern European countries they have elite teaching and go really deep towards stuff. The kids are also very disciplined. With countries like Spain and Italy, its much more lackadaisical.
