Dont think squad lacks as much as made out or the other top squads have this huge depth.

Look at City.... Nunes, Rico, Kovacic etc. That is not great depth really.

Same as Real.. who is their back ups that are great? Is likes of Joselu etc up top great depth? Arguably he may even be a starter.

No team really has top level depth except City for a season or two because as a general rule no world class players agree to be backups or not to start.

Best you can do in signing backups is good not top level players.

That's fair, but we also have the depth to absorb in defense and midfield at times.

For example got Gundogan, Pedri, De Jong and Gavi midfield already, Kounde Christensen Araujo for centre backs, so there are some top level backups there too.

Yeah, that's fair, some positions are covered well at squad level too, like CB and midfield apart from DM. Some are not, and need big funds to fix.

Full back is one of the most obvious areas... but who do other top teams have as depth there?

Real who? Fran Garcia etc?

They may have to sell to plug gaps they should have before now though.

They can cover some areas better without a huge outlay.

Romeu is likely going to play less and less, and Gundogan is to be deployed in DM. Gavi + Fermin is ok until Pedri and De Jong recover.

Need to ditch Romeu for sure. Even his physicality is nothing special.

They will try to find another DM in January even if just a shot term fix.

Until then it will mainly be FDJ when fit would think.

He is then a big miss at that left sided DM/box to box role though.

Don't think our squad as a whole is top 5. too many youngsters still, trash backup players in mid and only one striker.
we are not bad by any means, also considering our spending.
playing wise, I would expect better displays even with players missing.
something had been off lately
