I think in general this was the first big game he played for us bar his injury.

When he got here it was always Alves and Roberto playing in the big games as RBs. The games he played before he was parked by Lucho and after he was brought back into the fold before his injury were always against weaker teams.

Even against weaker teams he struggled on the defensive side.

that's the whole thing. the way he plays you would think he's playing as a RW who's being instructed to track back and help support the Defense and the Right-back. But he's the RB in this case and he's not playing like one.
