IQ. Intelligence, decisions.
You should look at that part also.

This is one of Halil's problems.
He always "played nice". When you see him running with the ball, he really looks elegant and better than 99% of other players.

But till now, more or less, nothing happens after his runs, dribbles, awesome actions.
A good thing is that he is finally playing in a smaller club, and imo, he needs to be the best or one of the best players in his new club, if he wants to raise his game to a higher level.

He needs to impose himself in a way that something actually happens after his actions.
Like 5-10 assists per Season, 5-10 goals, a few preassists etc.

Till now, he hasn't imposed himself (too much) either:
1. in Dinamo Zagreb
2. in young Croatian NT teams
3. in Croatian NT team (he rarely gets some minutes)
4. in Barcelona B
5. in minutes in Barca A

I don't want to sound as a bad guy, but he needs to turn from:
= did you see how I dribbled past 3 guys (and nothing happened after that)
= into: I assisted 10 times this season, scored a few winners, I am making the difference on the pitch

Ok, he is young, but he should impose himself more and more.
Sporting Gijon is a perfect opportunity for that.
Well, i disagree. It is not true that his actions have no resut.

I will start with Dinamo. In his last half season, when he developed as a player have was the best player, creating tons of chances, got a solid statistics, scored some good and important goals.
Then in youth nation team, it is true, he underacheived, although he was still the best player most of the time, and in A squad he played like 90 minutes in 4 games and did good against Argentina as a sub, created 2 great chances and almost scored twice against Malta, and against Norway he did well as a sub, also against Cyprus he created 2 chances and socred almost twice. So in A team he did well.

In Barca B he underachieved i agree, but the team was a mess, and his teamates were horrible.

This season i hope is a changer for him. He is playing and linking good with the rest of the team, he dribbles when its time to dribble. He assisted, and almost every dangerous action goes through him.
In youth national squad is the same, great teamplaying, but still no end result. He needs to collect more assists, and score some important goals. But it will come if he continues to play this smart as he started.

This is only my opinion, but Halo is one of the 10 top potentials.
He can be a good help to barca if he is used well. Of course he needs more development. potential is potential.

In Dinamo, he was the best dribbler, not the best player, that is a huge difference.

But people often simplify football into:
1. a best dribbler=is the best player
2. a player with the highest natural technical ability (mostly dribbling again)=is the player with the highest potential in the team

As others have said, Xavi said that he trained with 200 players more gifted than him in youth teams of Barca (again, he was talking probably about natural technical abilities), but he was the only one out of those 200 players who made it at Barca.

I agree, Halil has awesome (natural) technical abilities and high potential.
But in order to become a Barca's level, he will need to improve IQ, decisions, attitude in general, some workrate, defending and other tactical skills etc. And productivity in attack/AMC role.

About NT team, a 20 year old Pjaca is playing as a starter now, both under Kovac and now he will play as an AML in 4231 again, under a new coach.
If Halil is that good, there would be surely some room in NT team for him also (those comparisons with Messi at his age.) This is Croatia, we are not exactly filled with 100s of talents on his position.

So again, Halil will need to raise his game to a higher level and start to produce more assists and concrete things.
For now, he is extremely pleasing for the eye, but without too much productivity, wherever he played.

Being good footballer isn't about putting stats at all tbh ,Alen last season basically played CM and his role was to bring the ball from defense to the opposition final 3rd and he was doing relatively well considering that wasn't his game in 1st place and he was the team's youngest player
This year he has an assist and pre-assist in a team that scored 4 goals in 5 games after being promoted in Liga this year and he has played 4 of them and only 1 for full 90 minutes .their starting striker is also 19 years old player too .
He won't be able to put Barca level stats ,which is not a bad thing IMO if his game is actually improving and looking better
Alen IQ,defense, work rate has been on consistent progress since he moved to spain ,which is one of the main reasons I rate him highly over most of our prospects .not because of his talent

Yes it is quite unbelievable how his lack of defensive talent and def. mind is slowly becoming better, and people dont recognize that he really is trying his best most of the time in defense. Im in no concern over this aspect of his game at all.

He just needs to continues do develop his attacking game, in terms of getting more in opponents 16, shooting more smartly and with better accuracy, and grabing more assist then goals through teamplay

It is great how Sporting team has accepted him and pass the ball to him all the time to solve situations and create space which he does great. One of his best aspects aside tehnique and solid dribbling is that Modric style of passing diversity that he has, with outside of his foot, is just beautiful.

Maybe instructed to do that?

Perhaps they want him fresh to make difference from moments of class rather than tire him physically when thats not his strength.

Its being smart, he knows he cant be omnipresent at the field and conserves his energy for what hes good at. Running around like monkey would most likely be worse.

it's sporting. and he is midfielder. he needs to run miles higher than any others, even if coaches decide to sub him early.
plus that's good for developing pysicals to play full time. not breaking legs is most important tho.

Interesting match with a couple of players to look out for. Sanabria, Halilovic, Ceballos... all great talents.

Edit: as I'm typing this, Ruben Castro scores a stunner to put Betis in front!

Loads of players who play the No.10 type role have less defensive responsbility due to other things they bring to team.
