Playing "much" better, surely. Games against ajax away or athletic were awesome. Alexis fell of production together with the team, but the better football displayed was before Messi got injured, and before tactics and other problems messed everything up.

Maybe, but to me, it's pretty clear that when Messi is playing, we have a tendency to make every play through him, even though we have plenty of players in Iniesta, Alexis, Neymar, even Cesc, who can make the difference in our favour at any point in the game.

Contrary of what some people think, Barcelona could still be a great team and could still win big throphies even without Messi. We have a team filled with great offensive players, so we need to start acting like it. I don't want to see Messi taking 160+ shots per season in the league and Neymar and Alexis with around 60. It is clearly a tactic that sees Neymar & Alexis as providers for Messi, rather than threats on their own merit. These two players are too good to play for somebody.

It just takes balls really. We were playing much better when Messi was injured. In fact our best football of the season was played during that period. Messi simply sucks the wind out of our other forwards. They seem obliged to play for Messi.

Sell Messi. My feeling is Messi is SHOT. I hope I am wrong but if you play Alexis, Neymar and say Higuain together they will be a lethal partnership. There is too much bowing and scraping for Messi. I hope this does not cost us.

Nah that's simply not true, Alexis had some great games when Messi returned, and I say that as someone who isn't a fan of Alexis.

Also the team hasn't been playing for Messi recently , in fact Messi's touches have gone down a serious amount. Martino himself said that the team was trying to involve Messi less. Here gives this a read http://allasfcb.blogspot.ie/2014/04/martinos-battle-with-philosophy-2013-vs.html

We started playing badly differently around December, I don't believe the crap about Xavi talking to Martino but something definitely changed. I reckon the media pressure got to Martino and he tried to shift us back to our old style which in turn screwed with our rhythm. It's strange that people say we played better without Messi while losing to Bilbao and Ajax and having very average games against teams like Villarrael.

This argument may have been valid last season, but this season we have not gone through Messi at all like before. His passes and touches are down about 30-40% and Martino was quoted saying the team has tried to go through Messi less. Also Messi each season has had a bucket load of assists and key passes etc, so going through him benefits those around him.

Also, what is funny and ilogic is when some blame Alexis because he plays better for Chile than for Barcelona. And want him sold not because he is a bad player, but because he doesn't fit in, like it's not the clubs responsability to make sure that proven world class players deliver. That's really messed up.

It is valid this season too, especially since january 2014. Martino has made a mess of it since the winter. We played great while Messi was off precisely because our attacks were more evenly spread towards the front 3. We have the players to play like we did in 2009. That should be our aim, to return to that playing style.

Our tactics changed mid way through the season and everything went down hill. For some reason Tata gave up on his philosophy. I don't think it's valid as the team clearly doesn't go through Messi like they did in previous seasons ( Alves wing play etc ), but I won't go on about it further as we clearly disagree.

Well we have a very unique style that requires a certain set of skills that many players don't have, even great players like Alexis.

It's not valid for this season. Messi wasn't involved as he used to, played like a pure #9 and/or was isolated in most games. This "we played great till messi got back" it's a myth. Alexis and Pedro scored more, but Barça wasn't exactly playing great. And Alexis had one of his best games in the 1st liga clasico, with Messi on the pitch.

I also would only sell Alexis if Reus was the replacement. I'd rather keep him for the rumored alternatives so far. A coach with different tactics than tata, that used Messi as a fixed #9, and Neymar-Messi-Alexis could work really well.

Love this forum, during the season everybody absolutley hated on the guy and couldent wait to sell him, season over and alot of people suddenly want him to stay..

Just for the Alexis vs. Pedro and whether they only contribute against pushovers discussion:

It should of course be taken lightly, as the sample material isn't that big, but it still shows a huge difference in performance.
