diving to protect yourself is one thing but are you seriously suggesting that alexis only dives to protect himself? he dives excessively when he is in potential goal scoring/assist positions. i would agree with you if he fell once in a while like pedro to protect himself, but thats not the case man. he is blatant and refs have his number for a reason.

Alexis' diving is sad since he does down because he's too scared of taking a shot on goal and missing and consequently being criticised, that's my take on it anyways. Pedro used to go down as much as Alexis this time last year when he was going through that rough patch, he still does dive a lot. I thought Pedro clipped himself today and he still could have continued running, but went down and then feigned injury just to make it look like the Malaga defender fouled him, and as a result got him sent off. But not a single poster is yet to mention that. When Pedro was squirming in pain even Messi went over and told him to shut the fuck up and get on with it. So if it was ethics/a moral issue on diving that got people mad about Alexis, they would have flooded the Dani Alves, Cesc, Pedro, Busquets etc. threads.

Funny how people complain about Alexis' dive. Half of our team dives from the time to time or at least milks contact even if it's just to protect themselves from a heavier physical impact. And pretty much every other team does it too. It's a part of football, just like fouls and time-wasting are parts of football. I'm not fond of that, mind you, but that's just the way it is.

So, could anyone answer me why diving is particulary malicious, and more precisely, why it's even worse when Alexis does it ?

Most of us here (me for certain) don't commend anyone for diving (Fab a short time ago wasn't exactly applauded) and in fact loathe it quite deeply. I won't even bother responding to the "everybody does it" comment. Now then, the reason we don't attack others on our team for diving as much as Sanchez is because A) they don't do it nearly as much as Alexis, and B) they actually play well, and diving is a blemish on an otherwise excellent record as opposed to the rotten cherry on the spoiled cake.

( I thought Pedro was fouled, btw)

But not a single poster is yet to mention that.

It's always easier to kick the one who's down (no pun intended, hahaha)... Tonight's game had other things to analyze, yet people are choosing to point the finger at the usual suspect...

We all know by now that the guy can't score to save his life, yet the goalscoring burden is placed on him when things don't go our way, ignoring that we conceded in two huge defensive mistakes... Alexis deserves the stick he's getting, but there are others who were as responsible (if not more) for the draw...

what's with all this talk that alexis cost us the game? he missed some sitters but we drew because we got complacent and too confident, we drew because thiago was caught out in possesion, we drew because no one was defending the set peice/ marking the man at the last minute, we didn't lose the lead because of some missed chances by sanchez, malaga had ten men aided with the fresh legs of pedro, cesc and xavi and we didn't take advantage instead we conceded and we paid for it, so I don't get all the hate on Alexis, he created those chances himself with those runs and that keeps defenders on their toes, they focus more on defending than attacking, plus he recovered balls and defended alot too so I give him credit for that, I'm glad the camp nou was more understanding than the bunch of so called fans here. fact of the matter is that away goals count alot and that's the fault of bad defending not missed shots by forwards. Messi was unsually selfish today, shouting at the ref and those freekicks were terrible. the player that was great as usual was Iniesta the rest of the team were hit or miss. fabregas should have started alongside sanchez, fabregas knows sanchezs runs and often does threatening throughballs fabregas isn't biased in passing the ball which I like, example away game to bayer leverkusen he always looks for the man attacking instead of xavi who is more converative and usually only threads the ball to Messi. I have faith that sanchez will bounce back and also the team will win in La rosaleda.

This is a good post...

I'm not suggesting that of course. I just fail to understand how diving in particular is worse than e.g. fouls and why it's always pointed out when Alexis (supposedly) had a bad game. Other players dive too and nobody takes notice or internally refuses to do so.
I understand that people want to vent their anger but the diving issue is hypocrisy up to eleven.

People are mad at Alexis because it's not that he just dives when there is some contact and he could win a free kick. He often dives when it would be much better to stay up. Today he dove like 3 times when he was in great positions in the box!

Seriously I'm sick of seeing him lets play Pedro and Tello for the next couple of games. The bench can only do him good.

go back and look at the tape, pedro was clipped by the malaga player and it was a red card. huge difference between milking a legitimate foul and a blatant dive (something alexis has grown accustomed to doing).

i still believe alexis wasn't the reason we tied tonight and thought he did rather well in the first half aside from the obvious dives and misses, it was that horrible and complacent second half from the whole team that was the reason.

alexis could have done much better on his chances, but he was only part of the reason for the tie.

Probably his worst game in Barca shirt. The chance at the beginning reminded me of his chance against Chelsea at the beginning, and it didn't go well after it.

But you just have to pick yourself up and keep trying.

SELL! I would rather have the money than this player. He can't keep possession, he can't tiki taka, he can't score, and he can't stay on his feet. He is usually a dead end.

Perhaps he needs a break from the pressure and a good benching period might allow him to calm down. Just focus on training hard for a couple weeks, be benched for 2-3 games then play and see what happens.

Then again that could backfire and the pressure could just build. But he's undoubtedly hella off form and needs to get it together.

I would say ~40% of being a world class footballer is physical skill... the other 60% is mental and inner strength. The mental strength is where Alexis is weakest right now. He needs to be able to dig deep and dig himself out of it, if he can't then he's not ready to be a player on the best team in the world/in history.

The curse of the #9 shirt continues, Eto'o must laugh everytime he sees Alexis choke chances like that away wearing his #9.

That miss in front from the Adriano pass was a straight tap in, not to mention the one early from Tello's cross.

These are the misses just like the ones against Chelsea that in a two legged knockout bite you in the ass and inspire the other teams to get a goal on us.
