I'm just glad we finally have a player who's an actual CM. Instead of forcing primarily attacking players to play the CM role and limiting their abilities - Rakitić, Fabregas, Rafinha, Thiago, Roberto, etc. etc.

One opinion I read from Portuguese fellow

He is good player, just nob 'Barca good' and he is also a terrible fit to the way Barca midfielders usually work.

He is not a very good passer with is a no no in the Barca way of playing nor is he hard working without the ball.

This is a guy who shines driving the ball forward when he as space, that's the reason his best games are usually against bigger teams like Barca or Real, that space he will not be getting with Barca because teams park the bus against them 90% of the time and even when he has that space we will not be allowed to do that because guys like Messi, Ney or Iniesta are just much better at it.

Could be a good player for a English team because there he would have space, to Barca he is a terrible fit, they also got a lot of players who are better than him for that position like Iniesta, Arda, Rakitic, Denis and even Rafinha and Roberto will do as good or better than him.

Pretty much the EXACT same thing was said about Rakitic, we made him work though.

Gomes is exciting in the sense that if he does work then he could be huge for us. If he doesn't we will just sell him and get back what we paid for him and more probably.

He's a CM in a counter attacking set up. Deep lying playmaker at Benfica. This is what Lucho wants his team to look like - rapid transition from defense to attack, delivering it to the trident. Gomes is perfectly suited to this responsibility like few others in the market. Reminds me of a more direct Yaya before his prime which is the key aspect, he is yet to fully develop his game and will do so with Iniesta et al

Thats pretty normal. Its not like all of them are pure midfielders and can't play elsewhere. Rafinha and arda have played on the wings many times before. And samper won't be getting so many minutes so soon anyway. Bayern have had this many midfielders too and they did well.
