André Gomes

Topolino

Gemusesuppe
Pivot - Busquets and Samper
Midfielder 1 - Iniesta, Denis, Arda
Midfielder 2 - Rakitic, Gomes, Roberto
Wingers - Arda, Denis, Rafinha

It's not like those 8 "midfielders" can only play those 3 positions.

Count in winger positions and we have 10 (add Ney and Leo) players for 5 positions meaning 2 players for 1 position.

It's not too much. And creating some inside competition is healthy as long as it's friendly.

Gomes coming in won't stall Samper as Lucho sees Samper as a direct replacement for Busi. He'll (Gomes) just give some competition to Rakitoc who on the other hand can also now give some rest to Iniesta as Raki can wonderfully play when given more freedom.

Arda. He had some nice performances last season among those mostly shitty ones. Like Lucho said - takes time to adapt.

Hope we won't destroy Denis, Umtiti, Digne, Gomes and whoever else we sign this season because they won't start bossing it around immediatley. I know it's in our DNA but we really should visit a genetic engineer in that aspect.

I like this a lot.

Majority of fans here probably started to follow Barca in Pep's era, during magical duo Xavi+Iniesta and when we had tons of shorter, but technical players.
That worked perfectly during Tiki-Taka era, but imo, before Tiki-Taka and after Tiki-Taka, we will play better with some height and muscles combined with short-technical players.

Andre will be strongest+tallest player with Raki (from midfielders and forwards). Busi is tall, but I don't count him as a too strong player.

If Andre will be able to add some muscles, strength and balance like Cocu, Luis Enrique, Edmilson, Motta and Van Bommel, it will be awesome.
We already have too many "similar" players (Iniesta, Rafinha, Denis), plus Roberto and Samper aren't too strong guys.
So, when we'll need a fast-shortpassing games, we already have tons of options.
When we'll need a different approach with slightly less possession and skills, but more efficiency and counterattacks, we have Raki+Andre now.

Andre and Umtiti are 2 of my favorite signings and I expect of both of them to turn into starters in the future, with Andre a favorite No1 in my eyes.

For the end, an interesting story from our past:
In 2004/05 Season, when we played the best football in Europe with Ronnie, Etoo and Deco, we faced Mourinho's Chelsea in 1/8's of a CL.
We won 2:1 at Camp Nou, and in the return match, we played 433 with "small-technical" midfield consisted of Gerard Lopez, Xavi and Deco.
And Iniesta in attack with Ronnie+Etoo.

We were trashed 4:2 and we lost 100s of physical duels in the middle of the pitch.
Not to mention 100s of arial duels and corners.

Next Season, Rijkaard learned the lesson and we faced Chelsea again in knockout rounds.
This time, Rijkaard didn't play with 4 short and technical midfielders against Chelsea's thugs (something like Atletico Madrid today).
This time, in the first leg on Stamford Bridge, Rijkaard played 433 with:
http://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/season=2005/matches/round=2202/match=1102843/postmatch/lineups/index.html
3 Cbs in defense, without a classical RB: Gio, Puyol, Marquez and a CB Oleguer as a RB to get more strength in defense against Chelsea's thugs (instead of too attacking RB Belletti).
Also, in midfield, we played with Cdm Edmilson (186 cms), Cdm-Cm Thiago Motta (187 cms) and only Deco as a shorter, technical player.
In attack, we had Ronnie-Etoo and young Messi.

So, in 2005, we had 2 short fullbacks (Gio and Belletti) and 4 short midfielders (Gerard, Xavi, Deco, Iniesta). And lost 4:2.
In 2006, we had only one short fullback (LB Gio Van Bronckhorst) and one shorter Cm Deco (ok, Xavi was injured, but who knows whether he would play in that match. Iniesta was benched this time.
Also, we even had 187 cms tall and strong CM Mark Van Bommel this time as an option also, instead of only short-technical midfielders.

We won 2:1 on away game this time, and Chelsea's thugs couldn't do anything this time.
Chelsea had thugs with average technical skills who were better than our short-technical players.
But when we played with "our" thugs, who were both tall, strong and technically good, we were unbeatable.

We won a CL in 2006, after 14 years of waiting, with our mixture of technique+our thugs.

So, I was personally always a fan of some mixture in our team between some Barca's DNA short and technical players, but with some taller-thugish players to add some muscles and balance.

Before Andre, imagine if we played AM again in a CL, and if Raki was injured, we would have to play with Iniesta-Rafinha/Denis or something like that.
While now, we have Iniesta-Raki, Iniesta-Andre, or even 2 thugs and workhorses in Andre-Raki, when needed in some tough matches.

Since we couldn't get Pogba, imo, someone like Andre is one of the best options.

This is a midfielder from which I personally have the highest hopes from the combo of Andre, Rafinha, Roberto, Denis and Samper.

Welcome Andre and good luck.
Hope you'll bring some CL trophies to our team :barcascarf:

He is young and good but...why? If we sell Arda ok. We are full of monizzz though.

1. if you think that we are filled with talent with Rafinha, Roberto, Denis and Samper=then we don't need Gomez.
(I personally don't believe too much in these 4 guys)
2. if you (or the board) don't believe too much in Rafinha, Roberto, Denis and Samper=then this signing makes sense
3. if the board isn't too sure about Rafinha, Roberto, Denis and Samper, and now rather wants to gamble with 1 player with probably a higher ceiling and 4 of our La Masia products and see how will those 5 develop=then it is a good option also

4 of our current La Masia midfielders could easily turn into 4 squad players.
Good players, but none of them good for being a Barca's starter.

With Gomes we get more options, and higher chances that 1 out of this 5 will develop into a starter.
As others have said, we can't lose money on him also... He is young and with a high value.

Good Post.

Agree with everything you say.

I like the fact that Lucho is practical and takes physicality IU into account.
