We ran Rakitic to the ground last season.

Rakitic's role here isn't really in any danger but last season Lucho, tried to use Arda in the Rakitic role but as you can see it was a failure. the only CM who's remotely similar to Rakitic is Roberto and this season Roberto is being converted into a RB.

I could see why Lucho wanted Gomes, and he would make a pretty good Rakitic sub/Rotational player.

i share your point view .. we are not gonna see rakitic and him together in high profile games .. my skepticism comes from th fact that we paid big bucks for what you called a rotational player .

It's a lot of money for a "Sub" but we are paying a lot for the Potential.

It remains to be seen if Gomes turns out to be the real deal for us. (since we just bought him). I'm pretty excited we are investing in these young guys with lots of potential.

As to the Gomes talent aspect, he kind of reminds me of Cristiano. Same kind of long slim frame, same methods of shooting. Just saying this from the few vids I watched so yeah.

i still don't understand this investment .. his style is close to Rakitic so i can't see a midfield trio of " busi raki gomes " ... he works hard without the ball , tall and has physical presence , good at long passes ok with the tiki taka .. seems as if we are talking about Rakitic to be honnest , and Raki is better at the present and not old at all .. my biggest fear is all of these signings wont erase the Iniesta-dependance issue .. we needed a midget who could control the ball at ease , a 1 88 cm player would never be comfortbale Under pressure in midfield .. sadly real Madrid got my 3 favorite players at the iniesta position .. outside there aren't many , we could have waited for next season and saved the money .

It's a long season and if Gomes adapts he will play alot of minutes. I am not 100 percent convinced but let's judge at the end of the season. Lucho is also looking at the future and wants options. Our players hit a wall last season due to fatigue and Lucho doesn't want a repeat.

Look for Lucho to rotate HEAVILY this season. At Home against lesser sides players like Gomes and Denis Suarez will get significant minutes.

Miguel Rico said Robert, Albert Soler and Raul Sanllehí had been working hard on this transfer since July 12th.

Robert had talked with Gomes a lot about Barca, and also has a pretty good relationship with Mendes as well.

I said we needed a class midfielder,but I don't know how to feel about this signing, I don't think you buy 60m, for anything less than a player who could develop into one of the generation defining midfielders in his age group, which I get the feeling gomes is not.

But we will see how he develops, I am being hopeful

Gundogen would be the player I would have gotten, before city made there move.

I'd be like if PSG announced they'd signed Neymar, and he posted a farewell message to the fans, but Barcelona just didn't comment on it for two days, and instead kept posting about upcoming friendlies and stuff. It's really weird.

where did you get a 60m figure? For all intents and purposes its 35m + variables. IF they raise to 55m or something, then it will show that he was worth it since I don't expect the variables to be 10m for first appearance or something

Maybe they forgot, or are waiting to say something if they sign Montoya. Song is gone and the FCB site also forgot to report it. Guess they're pretending he was never here.
