André Gomes

DonAK

President of FC Barcelona
The main sports paper in Valencia, Super Deporte, made a poll regarding Gomes departure. 75% of the fans declared they were unhappy with the transfer.
Gomes was the player with most covers in this paper in the last 2 years. A fan favourite, probably their favourite player.

So, Valencia still haven't made an official announcement about Gomes? He was one of their best players. I'd be like if PSG announced they'd signed Neymar, and he posted a farewell message to the fans, but Barcelona just didn't comment on it for two days, and instead kept posting about upcoming friendlies and stuff. It's really weird.

Barca announced it on their official website plus Gomes himself posted a goodbye letter to Valencia supporters on his personal facebook site 2 nights ago, thanking them for their support and wishing them all the best for the future. It's done.

Yeah, that's exactly what I referenced in my post that you quoted yet apparently failed to read.

Okay? Why are you quoting me?

The more I think about him, I think that he is NOT Iniesta's replacement, not now and not for the future.

He seems like an awesome workhorse with nice passing and some dribbling skills.
Plus, he is tall, somewhat strong and with an insane stamina.
If he'll prove as a success here, I guess that he can be our next Rakitic in the future. Hardworking, technically good midfielder.

People will reply: but Rakitic is only 28. True, but he does have more and more problems each season with his stamina.
And there is a chance that he'll have more and more problems with each new season.
If Rakitic will be able to run like crazy for 5 more years, awesome.
But if Rakitic will have more and more problems over years with legs and stamina, Andre and Rakitic could rotate, or Andre could take the starting spot in 2-3 years (just like Bravo and Mats, where Mats was learning for the first 2 years).

If people think that Andre is an AM and too attacking player to play Rakitic's position now or in the future, well, imo, Andre is currently way more defensive and way more suitable for a CM role (aged 22) than Rakitic was when he was 22 years old.

We all know how a current (26-28) years old Rakitic plays for Barca.
But, look at how Rakitic played when he was aged 22, like Andre today.
Rakitic looked like a classic Amc-Cf back then, and look at how he plays today.
So, imo, since Andre is already more defensive than young Raki, I hope that he can develop well into a Raki No2 for the future.

Young Rakitic, aged 22, as a Amc-Cf:

Or in Basel:

Totally agree. I thought from the moment we signed him that he was brought as a competition and possible longterm replacement for Rakitić. I think the club sees Denis Suarez as Iniesta replacement. They'll both need a season or two to adapt but I wouldn't be surprised if Busquets-Gomes-Denis will be our starting midfield in 2-3 years.

Perhaps Valencia and Lim are annoyed at Mendes thus the lack of any announcement. There were rumors that there was trouble in paradise.
that wouldn't make sense. Do you think they are going to hold out the announcement for a couple of years? Keep pretending Gomes is their player even when Barça goes to Mestalla?

I doubt Barcelona will announce anything unless it's signed.
why not, if it has been agreed? There's nothing wrong in trust, even mobsters value word..

The more I think about him, I think that he is NOT Iniesta's replacement, not now and not for the future.

He is a pure centre midfielder, a classic nº8, box to box, with the versatility to play anywhere in the midfield, including as a false winger and as a false second striker. I would say he is indeed Iniesta's "replacement", only in the sense that you can say that, because, obviously, there is no Iniesta replacement and there will never be (like Xavi didn't have a replacement and Messi won't either)

Nice to see Barcelona has given up on pretending the La Masia was feeding the team, though. It's always nice when the administrations get real and stop hurting a club's interests just in the name of a narrative.

The academy was lucky in producing all those World Class players and let them play together for a generation, but that's a once in a lifetime event. If Barcelona wants to stay competitive it has to go shopping, like everybody else.

There was never a time when Barcelona were pretending that La Masia was feeding the team. There were the times when La Masia was feeding the team, and the times when we lacked talents in certain positions and bought players like Suarez, Neymar, ter Stegan, Mascherano, Dani, Mathieu etc

I was about to comment on that.. shocking to hear that from a barca fan..

You think a poster named DefinitelyNotABarcaFan is a Barca fan?

Now Valencia is feeding us instead of La Masia. And Sevilla too a bit.

We like them well behaving small clubs
