André Gomes

Gomes might be a good player for an average Spanish team (definitely not for Barca or the Portuguese NT) but in case it is true that Lucho was the one craving for him, he was out of his mind back then.
He represents the A-TYPICAL player who has nothing to do with Barca's style, approach or qualities. He is slow and all that but most importantly: highly predictable. And that's the main problem, because he won't be able to consume a "creativity liquid" and suddenly become someone else. The greatness of MSN is that in good form they are UNPREDICTABLE, so is Iniesta and that's what makes Barca Barca today!
Even Arda (whom I wholeheartedly dislike) is capable of some small quantity of this needed unpredictability, which could work sometimes if the a football-field was a quarter of its size. But the supposedly good Gomes is loosing on the physical side too, which makes him anything but someone to serve useful or creative balls to the MSN or do something useful in defense... (He is tall but looses each and every duel in the air...)

If you are a good observer you can see that he has almost NO facial expressions whatsoever, which is a good sign to identify a "motoric", "robotic" and uninteresting average player, who can perhaps only force himself to be getting involved...

Nice post.
I like your style

I thought he'd pick it up because its El Clasico and we're going to be 9 points below Real if we lose but we get nothing from this guy. Screw him. Kovacic is bossing the midfield and an entire year younger than him.

Yea Kovacic is a hidden gem and not given the recognition he deserves. He's fast, has vision and defends very well. Not to mention his workrate, he never stops. He's twice the player Gomes is.

Last season he was a fraud for rm, now he's adapted and playing well.

Almost every player needs to take time to adapt, especially in his case where he was given very limited playing time in a stacked team and midfield. Each time he played he showed massive effort and workrate and you could see he had tons of quality-making good runs, dribbling into space with his pace and vision. He had a hard time showing it consistently in his circumstance, nonetheless he did.

Gomes shows nothing. No attacking prowess, no urgency and he really just is painfully slow. They went by him with almost no effort on multiple occasions tonight. 1 year to adapt won't do him any good imo because he doesn't have the quality in the first place when it was clear Kova always did.

I won't have final judgement on him until next season, but so far he-along Paco- is making me miss the days when we were going after Arsenal players

People were lambasting kovacic during his 1st season at rm too. All players need time.
