André Gomes

Vice President of FC Barcelona
I don't know if tactics aren't communicated or what but everytime we shift from attack to defense or vice versa he pauses for 10 secs and looks around in bewilderment as to what he's supposed to do and then proceeds to "run" to where he is supposed to be with pace that makes Fabregas look like a fucking cheetah

Gomes was considered a real coup when we signed him. Iwasnt a fan but Real apparently were.

You can't expect these guys to fill the shoes of our legends. Simply not in the same class.

No he wasnt. I said when we signed him on page 38 and 39 here that he is an average player and not Barca quality. Of course people refused to accept it, but it is what it is.

He's lazy, inconsistent, makes too many bad decisions, his defensive work is poor, he goes missing often and he loses the ball far too often in dangerous situations. Denis and Roberto are simply better players.

Last season he was a fraud for rm, now he's adapted and playing well.

Fraud? Ridiculous. He had a huge number of super stars ahead of him in the pecking order and rarely got chances as a young kid. He's a much better player than Andre Gomes, always has been.

Yes, that's how he was perceived. He's very inconsistent too. But the grass is always greener on the other side.

He obviously needs time. I was satisfied with his sharpness. He was agressive and did his tactical role in defense to great effect. Contributed to denying Madrid clear chances to score by pressing them hard in midfield. He did that very well almost the whole time he was on the ball. This was an aspect that he suffered at against Sociedad, so this game was an improvement over the last one defensively.

However, in possession, he was way too shy. You still expect our midfielders to provide some through balls, not just keep the shape defensively and press hard. The technical quality that allows you to provide dangerous passes even when under pressure is not at the level it should be with Rakitic and Gomes. Now Rakitic will probably never be good at that, but Gomes has chances of improving his passing and being a top midfielder for us.

He wasn't anyone's dream-signing, but it is ridiculous to see people in here say that they always rated Kovacic, and that RM is so much smarter than us by getting him.
Kovacic was heavily criticized last year and many RM-fans was saying exactly the same as we are with Gomes now: It is not even worth the wait for him to adapt, he is just not a right fit etc.. Gomes also need time to adapt, but of course someone like Gundogan presumably would have adapted faster.

Maybe Gomes will never work, but it is kind of dumb to rule him out after 10-15 games, and especially using a comparison with a player (Kovacic) who went through the exact same thing and only turned out good after more than a year.
