Why can't we play with 4 false nines? Like Rayo Vallecano. They have one true nine position, but there is nobody there. And four players can fill that space. In Barca it could be Messi, Iniesta, Fabregas and Alexis.
Opponent's defenders just won't catch our 4 false nines and there will be much more space for a team.
LOl. the situation you explained is exactly what barca have been doing over years. Thats not 4 false 9 strategy, This is false 9, with 4 false midfieders switching roles, given the situation. (i mean if i were to be more precise, 4 midfielder are allowed to drift in strikers position if they find space). thats what cesc has been doing all year long.
But i have said this before you can definitely play more than one false 9. But for that too work, you have got to play them as no 9(the person playing a false 9 in a particular match, should be known for playing as 9), in most of the matches, and then, in a certain match, boom (play false thing).
Y ? because, the real purpose of false 9 is to drag defenders out to create space for other team members. Now if we say a team plays with false 9 all the time, Team will not fall for it. i.e There is nothing false about it. They will know that this particular team is fool enough and doesn't play strikers, Hey you CBs just hold your grounds.
Now i have explained this, signing neymar would be of great tactical importance. Messi can enjoy freedom and so can neymar. one drops, the other one goes up, right beneath the noses of CBS. Switching roles of false 9. This way messi can't be identified as false 9. People will be expecting messi to play a falsw 9. and there will be neymar all over the ground.
