Andrés Iniesta

Both MD and Sport have articles up saying that Iniesta is likely to leave.

He still has one more season left in him, but I can understand him choosing 35m a year at this stage in his career, especially now that Coutinho is here.

What a legend, he is the absolute embodiment what this club is all about. Consistency, a big match player, one of the top midfielders of all time; his departure will not only be a massive loss to Futbol Club Barcelona, but the football world as a whole.

Sad to see so many players synonymous with the club retiring/moving on in recent years. Only Messi, Busi, Pique and to a lesser extent Alba will be left.

Messi will also we the last player to have played under Rijkaard

Well, if he leaves, we need to secure a replacement before the WC. Arthur won't cut it in Iniesta's position and Alena is more of a Dembele backup (I'm assuming that Vidal won't stay here).

One option is Max Meyer, who would come for free apparently.
Another is Thomas Lemar, who would be costly, but apparently really wants to play for us.

Isn't that what we signed Coutinho for?

Well, he can't play all of the games. I'm hoping that Iniesta will stay another season, but if he leaves, we need a decent attacking midfielder back-up for that LM/LCM spot. Alena is more at home on the right and he would be my choice to play RM when we approach a game in more conservative manner.

If Andres leaves, we have no good midfielders to back up Coutinho. Denis and Gomes are not good enough. Paulinho is box to box. Alena is more at home at CAM / right side. Arthur is not the right profile. We need another versatile attacking mid, whose primary position is LM/LCM.

I agree that we need a backup if he leaves (I hope he takes 1 more season here). Trouble is, that he will leave on a free :nervous:
That said I think Alena should be getting regular minutes from next season, and a Roberto-Busi-Raki-Coutinho midfield could work well + with Roberto at rightback if we should field an attacking 4-3-3. It would be great to sell Gomes for a better backup, but that could be implausible as well - I find it hard to judge if it is realistic.

But Gomes and/or Paulinho could very well be upgraded to Fekir or Eriksen (I know I'm dreaming).

I personally think that Paulinho is a great asset to have, especially if you play him at CAM, so he can help Suarez bulldose the defenders.

If Iniesta does leave we have Denis, Deulofeu, Marlon, Rafinha, Vidal and maybe Gomes to sell. That can bring us at least 60 million Euros. If we can't get a decent (better than Gomes) LM with that, we are really useless.

Hope he stays. Like it or not, he's still one of the most importnat players for the team.
Friends from China will offer the same next year.

With his age he's thinking a more bigger picture post football.

I remember one of the rumors suggesting that one of the Chinese clubs are not only offering a astronomical wage increase but also a partnership deal with his winery as well.

To Iniesta it's probably to big of a deal to ignore and I honestly wouldn't blame him if he decided to leave.

I know Qatar are a shithole backwards country but part of me would love to see him back with Xavi to form the Xaviesta duo one last time

i dont understand why are we spending 100m on griz while iniesta is most likely leaving and our midfield is basically average. arthur is a hit or shit like any player from america and not even landing in summer.
