if hes coming to replace Suarez, go all in and get him. if EV plans on playing Messi-Suarez-Griezmann, this will be Coutinho 2.0

But he can't and we all know that. He is not a CF. He is a Thomas Mueller type of player in terms of positioning.

I would accept his trasnfer only had Suarez left but that won't happen, for sure. But I'm not a fan of his nor before he turned off Barca and not now.

Cadena Ser said one of the main reasons why the Club opted to go for Griezmann over Jovic was because of his quality, work rate, goal-scoring ability, versatility and he knows La Liga as well.

might as well have bought stuani+aduriz for 15 mil. would have dominated la liga for 2 years easily.

I wouldn't call Griezmann slow, he's for sure not a world class sprinter like Sané, Adama, Mbappe or Dembele but his speed is decent especially for a man in his late 20s, in comparison to Fraudinho and the Uruguayan pachyderm he is a F1.

I mean, really doubt current Suarez can outpace Busquets in a race.

The saving grace in my mind is that he's far more flexible than someone like Coutinho is and that even if he isn't a completely perfect fit as a pure striker in the vein of Suarez he still brings other stuff to the table that can help make up for those problems.

Well, that's what I hope at least. Blowing 120 Million on a guy and him not working out is bad like we are seeing with Coutinho.

Jovic is the best pure striker available in the current market. But probably, we're going for Griezmann because we are not looking to replace Suarez but still replacing Neymar. Coutinho is not an AML, Dembele is great but injured too much. Plus Valverde loves finished articles in the 27-30(+) age range to play GreenBall. Don't be surprised if next season all the seniors are still holding starting positions and our new signings are replacing the following positions.

de Ligt - Lenglet
de Jong - Arthur/Vidal
Griezmann - Dembele/Coutinho.

You see the problem here?

I was going to go on a tangent about why I think Griezmann is the perfect fit for us but I found a thread on twitter that says pretty much everything I wanted to.

https://twitter.com/barca_natics/status/1127992412285079554

"I want to elaborate more on Mo’s point here. Specifically, I want to highlight what Griezmann can offer Barcelona, as I’ve seen many say he does not fit.

Firstly I want to talk about his defensive contributions. He was usually the man furtherest forward at the start of his Atleti tenure, but gradually he has been given a bigger responsibility defensively. https://vimeo.com/219098622

Griezmann has fresher legs than Suarez, at this point is better at pressing opposition defenders, & also tracks back should the opposition break Barça initial high-press. Messi would thus be the only inactive player defensively, & the furtherest man forward when defending.

Secondly, Griezmann is a better at progressing the ball than Suarez, especially in counter-attacking situations. When Barça win the ball back deep in their own half, Griezmann is capable of bringing the ball forward and finding runners, or combining with Messi.

Griezmann would offer a lot of versatility in counter-attacking situations as he is capable of making runs in behind as the true #9, play out wide to stretch the opposition, or drop deeper to initiate the counter himself.

In an organized attack, Griezman can operate as a shadow striker, inside forward, or a traditional number “9”. As this video shows, Griezmann is adept at all 3 roles. This versatility will add a lot to Barcelona’s attack. https://vimeo.com/219098423

With Messi playing centrally & Griezmann pushing the defense back, Barça can create numerical superiority centrally, giving Messi the space to create, dribble & shoot around the edge of the box. If a central defender steps out, a diagonal run by Griezmann will punish him.

Furthermore, should a wide defender be dragged into the middle of the pitch to help compensate Barça’s superiority in the middle, Dembele or Alba will be free on the wing, giving Barça a very balanced attacked.

Griezmann could also drop deeper and drag a defender with him, giving Messi space to make a small run into the box. With the midfield we will have next year, as well as Griezmann’s creativity, Messi should be able to get more chances in, and around, the box than he does now.

Finally Messi and/or Griezmann are capable of drifting wide to overload either flank to help break down the opposition through the sides, & the other occupying a striker position inside the box. Both are also extremely capable of switching play to wide player on the other flank.

More than anything Griezmann will add versatility to Barça’s attack. Perhaps his best position is similar to Messi’s, but both Messi and Griezmann’s true value comes in their versatility and intelligence. This is where Griezmann will help.

Having a fluid attacking system such as this will keep opposition defenders guessing, as both Messi and Griezmann will be able to play different roles throughout the season, and even within the same match. Griezmann will also compensate for a static Messi defensively."

This sounds wonderful in THEORY but I doubt it will hold up in reality

Stopped reading at this part :"Griezmann has fresher legs than Suarez", seeing as Valverde will never have the balls to bench Suarez. He will play alongside him not instead of him.

Im convinced that we shouldn't spend 100+ anymore on players unless there are absolute world beaters(CR in United, Neymar back in Santos ). Its puts unnecessary pressure on players which they have a hard time coping with. Look at Coutinho and Dembele. Our 20-70m signings are doing better.

Also, we need to start thinking about getting value for the money. City has 230m to spend and gonna get four players. And with their history of scouting im sure it will be quality players. So 50-60m each. We are gonna spend 120m for Griezmann. Come on. Liverpool and City are gonna get 2-3 quality players for that price. Something aint right about our scouting.

For the price of Griezmann you get a Bussi replacement and Jovic.

Jovic (60-70m) + Rodri(70m) = 130-140.

And whats the better deal?
