Argentina

He's not, he's annoyed at football being used to spread Argentine imperialist propaganda.

Now you make really laugh. The imperialist is the British Empire not the other way around. Argentina never went out of their way to go occupy other territories or colonize entire countries. Perhaps the only good thing that came from British Imperialism is the spread of the sport football (not a fan of cricket but that too).

By the way for those patriots here, you will never in your life set foot on Las Malvinas or join the party of 3,000 colonialists. It's news. It's all about interests of corporations and military strategies so don't get too upset about the Banner.

I'll think you'll find that it was the Islanders themselves who voted to be British. In a turn out of 92%, 99.8% voted to continue to be an overseas territory of the UK rather than be an Argie. Surely that is what matters most, the people's choice? As a Gibraltarian I get incredibly fucked off with the Spanish claims on Gibraltar. We have had several referendums and the result has always been the same 98.5% voting against being Spanish. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gibraltar_sovereignty_referendum,_2002

i agree with my fellow Gibraltarian

Britain has done some horrible colonialist things in it's history, but settling the Falklands Islands peacefully with the French is not one of them.

Argentina never went out of their way to go occupy other territories or colonize entire countries.

Well, apart from 1982 when Argentina invaded the Falklands and subjugated it's people of course.

It's all about interests of corporations and military strategies so don't get too upset about the Banner.

If the English, Scottish, Welsh, Northern Irish or Gibraltarian national teams put up a similar banner about the Rock or the Falklands being British then I'm sure people would have plenty to say about it, and rightly so. This sort of thing has no place in football.

Why almost every world cup Argentina has to take on Nigeria? in 1994 , 2002 , 2010 and now in 2014? While Argentina won all previous encounters I see a draw this time.

Maradona had this very similar atmosphere back in 1986 before he took on the entire English team and scored a golazo (a.k.a Goal of the Century). I hope Messi finds similar inspiration in the coming few days.

min. 1.04... Diego's look of contempt towards the England team...

such a great guy, to beat his opponents and teach them a lesson with football alone.

He vomits every time he plays in Argentina.
I think I've got an explanation for this. Messi is an iconic person - he makes a lot of commercials around the world, travelling all the year from West to East, all over the world. Charity matches, commercials, tv shows - all these things make him travel a lot. And that has enormous effect on his body - it just can't deal with that pressure on it. Remember the fact that he's an athlete and trains almost every day, so the load on the body is just insane. Maybe also those hormon injections he received when he was a child influenced this too. But that's just my point.

Blasting imperialist in defence of the Great Britain! Now that's some comical stuff!

I don't think a German is best-placed to use that sort of rationale. I'm happy to contend any actual reasoned counter-argument anyone might put forward though, if the mods are OK with it.

The only beneficiaries of Imperialism are Royals, tycoons, and large corporate stakeholders. If you are not one those then you are a victim of that policy either by paying taxes or being used as a soldier. So no need to defend,

Either way Messi unlink Diego has no interest in politics.

This thread is not for discussing this issue but why the kerfuffle over the Crimea then ? Self determination for all. This is a bit of a hypocrisy on our part as a country with that idiot Hague running his mouth everywhere.

If politicians who inevitably start wars could get together around a table to convene an amicable agreement like adults it would be so much nicer. I still don't understand the upset considering Kirchner like Galtieri is trying to use the football team and this issue to try and distract people over her running of Argentina.

Most Argentines if you ask are not fooled. I would suggest this thread returns to discussing football than politics. How far are we going to go back in history ? So please everyone concerned stick to the seleccion and other matters relating to Argentine football please.

I know the English like their ass get kicked by the Albiceleste every once a in a while but what would it take to see Messi take on England?

First England miraculously has to qualify 1st in group D, go on to beat Spain in quarter finals and assuming Argentina makes it to the semis, will get that epic match: Argentina vs England

even if the issue with the falklands is off topic, it is still interesting to see that i'm not the only one being in favour of the inhabitants of the islands. what would happen to those people if gb ceded the falklands to argentina. and isn't there a politics thread in this forum?
