Argentina

Calma, calma
I'd rather all threads were derailed in such an informative manner than read another page of complaints on how poor Argentina's defence is or another rumor on how Barca are after Cuadrado.

argentina's defence is poor. they should attempt what barca are doing with cuadrado and play 1 of their wingers as a fullback.

Chill, under western pressure FIFA at best will make AFA pay some fine and move on so we can all enjoy the world cup.
Besides a country half a planet away wants to control islands that don't belong to it in first place.

In the first place? The islands were British before Argentina even existed as a country. Argentina taking the islands due to proximity alone would be like Britain stealing the Faroe Islands. It's madness. The French have a stronger claim than Argentina does.

It's a small rock with less than 300 miles from Argentina and thousands of miles away from UK. A population of 2,932 humans and 100 times that of Penguins, no football team no fun......

Is it simply a British millitary outpost to monitor navigation around Antarctica? Maybe?

or maybe it has something to do with the 12 billion barrels worth of oil lie buried out in the waters around the rock? hmmm

Discovered by a Brit in 1690. Colonized in 1833. Yeah, you're right it must have been about the oil because they used it for everything in 1830 and they had oil rigs and everything.

However, in 1982 Argentina launched a sneak attack to steal it. Why would they do that? After all it is 300 miles away from Argentina, only has a population of 2.932 and...

(Did we use oil in the 1980's?)

Yes, I'm sure Britain knew about that oil in 1690 when the islands were first claimed by us, over a hundred years before Argentine independence, we must just have been biding our time.

It was actually first colonized by the British and French together in the 1760's, but then the Spanish came and took the islands by force from the British after the French left voluntarily. Britain reclaimed them in 1833. The Argentine government claims that the islands belong to Argentina because they were part of the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata when they gained independence, but even if that were true, by that logic Argentina should belong to Bolivia.

I was only trying to make the point that it is more likely that Argentina want it now because of oil than why the UK colonized it in the first place.

Fucking Wankers! How come FIFA haven't done anything about this? I thought making political statements were against the rules?

Ah the Daily Fail brigade. And mind your language. Are you upset by a statement like this ? These banners have been displayed before at matches both club and country. There is a stadium named after the Malvinas. Why get your knickers in a twist over an opinion shared by everyone in South America ?

Maradona had this very similar atmosphere back in 1986 before he took on the entire English team and scored a golazo (a.k.a Goal of the Century). I hope Messi finds similar inspiration in the coming few days.

He's not, he's annoyed at football being used to spread Argentine imperialist propaganda.
