A FIFA spokesman said: “We are analysing the matter . . . and will provide more information in due time.”

Chill, under western pressure FIFA at best will make AFA pay some fine and move on so we can all enjoy the world cup.
Besides a country half a planet away wants to control islands that don't belong to it in first place. What did the banner say? Las Malvinas Argentina!

I'll think you'll find that it was the Islanders themselves who voted to be British. In a turn out of 92%, 99.8% voted to continue to be an overseas territory of the UK rather than be an Argie. Surely that is what matters most, the people's choice? As a Gibraltarian I get incredibly fucked off with the Spanish claims on Gibraltar. We have had several referendums and the result has always been the same 98.5% voting against being Spanish. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gibraltar_sovereignty_referendum,_2002

This. The people's choice is what should matter.

it's a matter of "economics" why people vote in a certain way. But that doesn't change the truth that it's a colony half planet away from UK. Only in time and it will go back to Argentina! the message was simply a friendly reminder.

As for Gibralta, it's got an Arabic name, midway between Africa and Europe and at least closer to UK than say Las Malvinas. Hawaii would vote to join Japan if the United States was a dump.

Eh let's not derail this thread further but the falklands are British and pretty much always have . Their proximity to Argentina means nothing.

The way I see it, once they've taken a stance, they better keep it that way even if things go badly in the future(hopefully not though ofc)

Exactly. The sad part of it is that the only reason that this Argentinean administration wants to keep raising the issue is to try and distract the populous from the economic disaster it finds itself in.

I didn't vote against being Spanish for 'ecomomic' reasons and neither did anyone else for that matter.

Under international law land and sea within 200 miles of a countries border belongs to them, and the islands are 300 from Argentina so they have no lawful claim to the land. It was an empty rock and a case of first come first serve. The Argies should move on. Anyway this thread has been officially derailed now.
