I'll think you'll find that it was the Islanders themselves who voted to be British. In a turn out of 92%, 99.8% voted to continue to be an overseas territory of the UK rather than be an Argie. Surely that is what matters most, the people's choice? As a Gibraltarian I get incredibly fucked off with the Spanish claims on Gibraltar. We have had several referendums and the result has always been the same 98.5% voting against being Spanish. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gibraltar_sovereignty_referendum,_2002
Chill, under western pressure FIFA at best will make AFA pay some fine and move on so we can all enjoy the world cup.
Besides a country half a planet away wants to control islands that don't belong to it in first place. What did the banner say? Las Malvinas Argentina!
it's a matter of "economics" why people vote in a certain way. But that doesn't change the truth that it's a colony half planet away from UK. Only in time and it will go back to Argentina! the message was simply a friendly reminder.
As for Gibralta, it's got an Arabic name, midway between Africa and Europe and at least closer to UK than say Las Malvinas. Hawaii would vote to join Japan if the United States was a dump.

I think they would describe themselves as Falkland Islanders.
