it hasn't bothered then in the past why would it now? I think Arsenal need to miss out on CL football for their board to finally realise they need to spend big to challenge for titles.
This season they said we had money, and actually put bids in. Delegates were flown to Madrid and Higuain had already agreed to terms, Madrid upped their price when they saw how much everyone else was going for, and Arsenal backed out to go after Suarez. 40 million was bid, believing it would trigger a release clause, which Pere Guardiola (Suarez' agent) told Arsenal existed. It didn't. It's not like they were only out to get bargain bin deals like usual. If that release clause was real, we would've smashed our 15m transfer record with a 40m world class striker. Hell, if they knew beforehand that the clause was 100% bullshit, maybe they would've paid the extra 10-15m Madrid wanted for Higuain.
All this tells me that they're a bit out of touch with the transfer market. Lots of money to spend, but no experience in negotiating with clubs that don't really need the money. If it were a midtable club instead of Madrid selling Higuain, they wouldn't hold out for the extra 10m. Malaga sold Cazorla within a few days of us being linked with him. Zagreb sold Eduardo so fast, no newspapers had time to link him to us before he was already in London posing for photographs.
I still hope we get some quality signings in. We got rid of a ton of deadwood, but our squad is criminally thin now. It'd be suicide to enter the season without a new CB, DM, and CF. Vermaelen is out for months, Arteta can't carry us all year, and we're finished if Giroud gets injured.
