1) Neves is the very definition of a highlights reel player. Will play a spectacular pass here and there, or pull out a 30 yard strike occasionally but can’t control a midfield and is horribly immobile and slow.
2) Argument for Kimmich although he is two years older than Arthur. So doesn’t answer the question I asked.
3) I’ll give you FDJ. Though for obvious reasons, we won’t worry about him, right.
4) Ruiz. Older than Arthur, so again isn’t relevant to what I asked. But in any case, he’s quite one dimensional as a player and has also suffered a lot from inconsistency this season after a promising the season before. Has yet to establish himself internationally either.
5) Valverde. Breakout season. Looks a pretty good all rounder, though hasn’t demonstrated it for nearly long enough to be compared to Arthur. Wouldn’t say there is anything particularly outstanding about his game either. Decent technique, works hard, compliments Madrid’s midfield well. Wouldn’t say he is a world class prospect.
6) Odegaard isn’t a CM.
7) N’Dombele. Good profile, but can’t get in the Spurs XI. Isn’t a regular starter for France. Again, he’s older than Arthur.
8) Decent player. Good energy and can get a goal. Isn’t a controlling CM though, and I’d say his ceiling is quite limited. Yet to secure a a first team berth in the Dutch side too.
So out all of all those names, I’d only really say there is FDJ who there is a strong argument for being as or more accomplished/promising than Arthur and he’s already at our club.
The others are either older than Arthur, aren’t CM’s or aren’t as good as him.
Edit: missed Havartz and Lo Celso.
Havartz - very promising last season. This season however, whilst looking neat and tidy has been fairly anonymous. Also recently booed by his own fans. I’d say he has shown promise but doesn’t have the portfolio behind him yet.
Lo Celso - isn’t a first choice in the Spurs XI. Is also older than Arthur. So again, not a very convincing example.
