Still waiting for people to name me five CM’s his age or younger who are as accomplished, developed, or as promising as him?

Arthur is better than 75% of those names. His skills and qualities are top notch, but this is not enough. Mentality is a key component you need to have to succeed.

Lets hope he has what it takes, because except for 5-6 users around here every one of us wants to see our young players suceeding.

For some people, if Rakitic scores that same goal then it would have been because he makes dangerous runs into the box and has great attacking instincts..

1) Neves is the very definition of a highlights reel player. Will play a spectacular pass here and there, or pull out a 30 yard strike occasionally but can’t control a midfield and is horribly immobile and slow.

2) Argument for Kimmich although he is two years older than Arthur. So doesn’t answer the question I asked.

3) I’ll give you FDJ. Though for obvious reasons, we won’t worry about him, right.

4) Ruiz. Older than Arthur, so again isn’t relevant to what I asked. But in any case, he’s quite one dimensional as a player and has also suffered a lot from inconsistency this season after a promising the season before. Has yet to establish himself internationally either.

5) Valverde. Breakout season. Looks a pretty good all rounder, though hasn’t demonstrated it for nearly long enough to be compared to Arthur. Wouldn’t say there is anything particularly outstanding about his game either. Decent technique, works hard, compliments Madrid’s midfield well. Wouldn’t say he is a world class prospect.

6) Odegaard isn’t a CM.

7) N’Dombele. Good profile, but can’t get in the Spurs XI. Isn’t a regular starter for France. Again, he’s older than Arthur.

8) Decent player. Good energy and can get a goal. Isn’t a controlling CM though, and I’d say his ceiling is quite limited. Yet to secure a a first team berth in the Dutch side too.

So out all of all those names, I’d only really say there is FDJ who there is a strong argument for being as or more accomplished/promising than Arthur and he’s already at our club.

The others are either older than Arthur, aren’t CM’s or aren’t as good as him.

Edit: missed Havartz and Lo Celso.

Havartz - very promising last season. This season however, whilst looking neat and tidy has been fairly anonymous. Also recently booed by his own fans. I’d say he has shown promise but doesn’t have the portfolio behind him yet.

Lo Celso - isn’t a first choice in the Spurs XI. Is also older than Arthur. So again, not a very convincing example.

The problem is that he won't play against guys of his age but against players who are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 years older than him for a majority of his career.

Neymar is younger than Messi and CR7, yet he will be 30 when those two will finally stop playing.
Imagine using this argument in Neymar's case.

Or Dembele.
Name 5 better wingers than him of his age.
You can't.
But Dembele still sucks and is not good enough for Barca.

Bit difficult to compare because they have different roles but I would any day of the week swap Arthur for one of the mentioned. Aouar is also clear of Arthur IMO, you can make an argument for Rodri aswell. Wouldn't surprise me if Bruno Guimaraes quickly surpass Arthur, lots of people from Brazil wants him to replace Arthur in the national team already.

The overrating of Arthurs is way too much. The mentioned players are better both judged by the eye test but also by stats (go check their average who scored rating for the last 2 years)

None of them have accomplished anything and are far from being dominant forces against serious opponents. We're living in the era of shitty midfielders (DJ probably being the best of this lot with his time in Ajax).

Yeah but those players are also not overweight, contracting STDs and partying up at Neymar's orgies in Paris on their days off , dawg.

That's situational thing and may no be even true. Stop reading into tabloid press too much. As for overweight, it's basic fitness problem under injury stint. Also, Suarez is permanently overweight, but no one cared as long as he scored lots of goals.

I've been calling Arthur the midfield Dembele since day one, but the majority of other fans seemed more than happy to use Valverde as a shield to excuse his inconsistent, mediocre play.

He is turning 24 this summer. The way this forum talks about him you'd think the bloke was barely 18. Hopefully we still aren't calling him a kid that deserves more chances/a new manager/a new system when he's 25 like some did with Samper.
