Arthur

Regardless of your opinion of Arthur, him stopping us signing another 30 year old past it midfielder puts him as the best performer in our team for the season now.

Barcelona and Juventus acknowledge that without Arthur, the Pjanić operation is almost impossible. Arthur's entourage assure that there is no chance that the Brazilian will leave, he doesn't want to. [cadena ser]

Goathur Melo!!

:worthy: You can say that again. What's next? Fati exchange for Higuain?

Juve is all wrong for Arthur btw... Makes no sense.

So is Pjanic for Barca, at this stage of his career.

Looking at someone like Fabian Ruiz makes more sense.

Yea, that goes without saying. It's actually quite mind-boggling how we can even be an okay from Arthur from doing yet another disaster-deal.

It made sense when we was at Betis. Now it doesn't, because he's not worth what Napoli will ask.

It's yet another proof of incompetence how you have a talent ready for picking at Betis, and you allow him to leave the league, go to Napoli, and only then chase him after the asking price multiplied by a factor of 2-3. Textbook incompetents.

Abidal is probably just a puppet in the hands of the board. Which is just as worse.

I don't believe that. The reason we are chasing Pjanic is 100% Abidal. He wanted Barca to sign him years ago and then there's the Lyon connection too.

The man is just clueless.

Arthur seems to be in great shape. Looks slimmer and quicker. Hope he will stay fit. Started the season great then started to get injuries and fizzled out. In 1-2 years he should be in his prime.

If he makes good use of these few years he can be a great player, if not, he'll be another talent who didn't pan out in the end. His offensive potential is higher than what he is showing. He has final pass in him, and even the shots are pretty good. When he shoots it's usually on target. He should just take more initiative, even if he's not an attacking midfielder at heart.

His tendency is to play tiki-taka football, but there will be no teams around in Europe who will play this style 100%. Not even Barca play it (under Valverde even less so). So you need to adapt, because the ideal team that just fits you like a glove is hard to find. Same applies for Frenkie.

It's either that or pray Xavi comes as manager and he's still around.

Apparently Arthur is one of the lowest-earning players in the squad and with all this talk about wanting to cut salaries due to the COVID situation, I find it fucking hilarious that they want to trade him for Pjanic who is 30 years old and would be on much higher wages.

If they wanted to buy a Midfielder who is experienced they should target the 25-26 range like when we got Rakitic and not guys like Pjanic. Adding Pjanic won't really solve anything as we still have a dysfunctional Front line with two aging Forwards who don't track and don't have the pace nor Mobility and using Three Midfielders trying to defend and cover up the problems that Messi and Suarez have now and not being able to play to their strengths.

Also doesn't help that Rakitic and Busi don't have the legs anymore but it's not like Pjanic himself is really all that mobile either and was never a workhorse type of player. The only way I could see Pjanic being good off the start or at least try and get some remaining juice out of him is if we didn't have all these issues.

I agree that his potential is higher than what he is showing. About the shots on target, I haven't seen many of them. The guy is just in love with our still tili-taka football, because is the easiest one. Just pass the ball horizontally and backward or... look for Messi. If there is really something special in this guy, he won't be able to show it untill Messi retires.
As of Xavi, I am not sure if he is the right candidate. He has very little experience as a coach ( none in Europe ) and he won't be able to get rid of his former team-mates to start the rebuilding process. That process is the most important thing for Barcelona in the coming few years. We need coach with strong hands, who can change the entire philosophy of the organization.

A small part of naivity on my part, hopes that all this Arthur<>Pjanic talk is being pushed by Juventus and not us.

And then I see this guy, and realise, we're screwed.

The man is just clueless.

He was a defender.
Not a playmaking one.

No offense to other positions, but there is a reason why Pep is a good coach.
He was a pivot, a playmaker, a brain on a field.
He knows how to move, how to pass, how to build up, how to read the play.

An analogy, imagine in 20 years: who will be a better coach for tactical understanding or a better sporting director for spotting midfield talents:
Busi, who was a brain for 15 years
Semedo, who is braindead in attack
Mats, a goalkeeper, absolutely clueless in terms of midfield tactics, movement, game reading, organizing a midfield play.

Our directors lately were a goalkeeper Zubi and a defender Abidal.
No wonder that majority of our midfield and attacking signings were absolutely horrible and misfits.
They just go for big names and youtube sensations all the time.

On the other hand, Pep, Klopp or Beguiristain are buying players who are perfect fits for their longterm plans.
Yet we have Dembele, Coutinho, Griezmann, Malcom, Lautaro, Arda, Denis, Gomes, Paulinho and similar.

What about the successful Monchi?

Despite saying that he will stay, MD keeps saying Juventus thinks they can convince him even though he told them to fuck off already.
