No, that would mean only Atletico define what an EPL team is, which is not what BrianSwan said.

What he said was essentially Atletico are a better representation of the EPL than Arsenal which is basically just cherry-picking random teams to concur with the reputation of the EPL as physical, intense, successful, etc. One can't just say Arsenal=/=EPL team while Atletico does just to support a fallacious reputation.

You can also understand the connotation of BrianSwan's post given his history of trying to elevate the EPL as the superior league. However one can't simply say that because Atletico play a certain way and are good at it they are suddenly an EPL team while Arsenal's failure to do so shuns them from this qualification so as to not tarnish it.

Well, the same can be said of La Liga and passing football.

People characterize La Liga as a passing-oriented league but I don't see the same attempts to 'copyright' the style as its own. For example I've never heard people say "Arsenal/Swansea are proper La liga teams" or anything of the sorts. Hell even Bundesliga has some aesthetic passing play, la liga fans haven't tried to claim it as an imitation of their league.

However, I do concede that this is characteristic of Barca during its prime, being 'entitled' to the style of possession play. There was a lot of talk about Arsenal being a weak imitation of Barca or saying Bayern are "Barca-copies" after Pep implemented his system there. However, there is a certain truth to that. While Barca can't "own" total-football and possession style they were the iconic 'ideal' of that system and what most teams would model around. However, EPL doesn't really represent the "ideal" of 'physical, fast-paced' football because few of those teams are actually successful at it.

They play like how old good EPL teams used to, look at that sequence of play.. long ball, head downs.. battling for the ball (physical team). Arsenal now are just.. pass pass pass.. lose possession (passing team).

Btw, ofcourse not all PL teams are that good organisational wise, just the top, top ones over the years.

The chinese guy buying the shares has said he doesnt want control of the club and wont be ploughing in more cash.

I actually think he is getting 20% too cheaply and only values the club at around 200m euros.

Bit of a strange deal.

My feelings exactly. I was amazed that a mere 40m would constitute 20% of the club.

Wang Jianlin also reportedly has ties/stakes in Villarreal and Valencia. In what shape or form, I have no idea.

I just read a bit more about it.

Reports are saying that there will be an initial investment of 40m euros which will help the club meet their debt payments and new stadium costs in the time between now and collective agreement starting next year.

None of that will find its way into the hands of current shareholders, all will go to club.

On top of the 40m Jianlin will build 5 soccer schools in China linked to Atletico, will finance a tour of China this year and will get a number of asian based sponsorships. While generally raising the clubs profile in Asia.

Actually seems a very good deal when you read more about it.

Yeah, I don't doubt it will help boost either Atletico' financial well-being or its profile. If it is good for the league, it is good for us.

Atletico's problem is that it will be hard for them to build onto the team, their challenge always every summer is to replace, replace, replace. If this guy can help Atletico secure players with proper salaries then every next purchase, improves the team and eases the tension on each player. Which somehow, I could see affecting the club because their whole strategy is based on tension and extreme alertness.

Having said that, their most difficult job is a two fold: Keeping Dieogo Simeone, and Diego Simeono keeping Diego Simeone interested in the job. Like Klopp, I think he will burn out himself at Atletico.

"The atletico's keeper Oblak saved a penalty shot from Messi. In the end of the game a journalist asked him how he felt after saving a penalty from the best player in the world. Oblak answered : I don't know, I never saved a penalty from Cristiano Ronaldo"
