Aymeric Laporte

Honestly I have never been a fan of Laporte, it is kind of big risk for Pep,could turn to be just super expensive CB
I have been 50/50 with him tbh. He showed quite a bit of potential early on but I think he stagnated in terms of development.

Apart of me thinks he can be up there with one of the best and another part of me thinks he could end up being another Inigo Martinez, someone who did show promise early on but ended up not being all what people expected.

70 Million is a risk no doubt.

^ I agree and there are other options out there. I also feel that he is just another version of Stones. Weak and okay on the ball.

He'll succeed easily. Got everything as a CB, but lacked a platform and often criticized for it by so called purists because he chose to stay loyal to Athletic.

Havent seen a lot of him since his return from injury, worth the money?

Guessing he benches Stones.

I think he would play along-side Stones, because he is left-footed. That would fit a Guardiola-defence perfect with two options to play out from the back, so the opposition can't easily lock down the "ball-playing" CB with high pressure. I don't think he will be worth 65M€, but I don't know who is, tbh.

Otamendi is a class higher than Stones this season though. And in general too, will probably stay that way at least for another 2 years. Stones is still too mistake prone, although Pep did always have a knack for preferring ball playing defenders like that, even if that meant up to 5 completely needlessly conceded goals per season after a ridiculous defending mistake.

Fair enough, didn't know Otamendi was proving himself to be that good :)

Because he's become a caricature. From building a team with home-growns and making unique style to playing on cheat mode spending billion and recycling Barca at fake club.

how is he recycling barca? lol

Lol

By getting himself best available toys to suit him rather than adapting the game plan to players. Legit option but nothing noble or genius about it.
So yeah, basically recycling with unlimited budget. One can admire copy of Mona Lisa too but it's still a fake.

What Valverde does with Barca is more admirable. Nevermind what Simeone is doing year after year and human part of the story in it.

Since Pep joined city he's spent 520m (now including laporte) on transfers (2016/17+) while we spend 403m in that time frame

mind you lots of managers try to buy success and massively fail..
i wouldn't take things away from him really, yeah he's spent a lot but so have we, and to say the least it is proving that spending works look at his lead and ours...

i don't see it as a terrible thing to use his resources that are available to him and purposely hinder his team because he wants to prove a point by spending little to satisfy the random fans in the world.

Think figure is different but Coutinho transfer skewed it now.

Don't think "lots of managers" spent as much as him in this timeframe. Probably noone.

Point is different anyway. He is being hailed as genius while Valverde is fraudverde while in reality doing tougher job in more difficult circumstances.
