Aymeric Laporte

I was there to watch him play for Athletic against Espanyol a fortnight ago, and was slightly disappointed by his performance. He has all the basics to fit the Barça system perfectly and be a very good player, but still looked a little naïve and lacked concentration at times.

The biggest issue if he is going to City isn't that we've missed out on a top quality player, but that there aren't many other options...

Man City's Txiki in Bilbao to talk about signing Aymeric Laporte
The sporting director of Manchester City was in Bilbao at the game between Athletic and Sevilla

Txiki Begiristian doesn't want surprises regarding the future of Aymeric Laporte. The sporting director of Manchester City was in Bilbao at the game between Athletic and Sevilla, and didn't let the opportunity pass him to speak to the president of the Basque side, Josu Urrutia.

He went from Paris to the San Mames. From the moment Pep Guardiola was confirmed as Man City's new manager, Laporte became objective No 1. Bear in mind that Barcelona have been tracking the defender too, although a transfer would need to meet his 50 million euros release fee clause.

City are progressing well in terms of talks, although the deal is not completed yet. However, in recent days Urrutia has suggested Laporte could be offered a bigger contract which would also see his release fee clause go up.

ETB: Laporte will sign for City. They will pay his €50M clause. Bilbao already know it will happen. Specific request from Pep.

Yeah, it's done. Especially if it's coming from that source. Crazy money for a CB that's been average at best this season.

Must be hard being pep as manager. Just point your finger and you get what you want on top of strongest team in your country.

Looking at that 2-6 at Bernabéu when he beat Madrid things seem so distant. We're not the same team and pep lost what made him unique as well.

City. Want stones too so yes one of them is on the way out.

No way Pep would want both Stones and Laporte, huh? Never mind the fact that they'd be +100M together, but two young players like that would be a recipe for complete and utter disaster. Not even Pep is that crazy... Right?
