There was the issue with the different vision between what Rijkaard wanted and what the Sporting Department (Txiki) wanted.

We started the season with a 4231 and built our signings around that formation which just wasn't working.

David's coming allowed Rijkaard to revert to his favoured 433 and the rest is history.

The next summer not keeping Davids (despite how great he was) and bringing in Deco in his prime was a masterstroke.

Rayan Cherki is Lyon's biggest offensive prospect, and their fans say he's supposed to be the next big thing. Very highly doubt Aulas would let him go anytime soon. They already sold Amine Gouiri for pretty cheap, and the guy scored twice on his first game with Nice. Fans are furious. Don't think Aulas will take the risk to enrage them even more (Gouiri was a big prospect but Cherki is said to be on a whole other level)

I wouldn't go after more unproven teenagers unless they are relatively cheap gambles or if we can do similar deals we did for Pedri (5m initial fee with high bonuses if he's a part of the first team and play certain ammount of games; if/when he's proven good enough then paying 20-25m for him is a lot lower risk than paying upfront when you don't know how he'll turn out). Hlozek might be worth a risk as he's probably not too expensive, on the other hand I don't see Lyon selling Cherki for cheap.

The only player that age who I'd be willing to pay big money (if we'd have that money) is Camavinga. Rennes is demanding 70m now but he'll have just a year left on his contract next year so he could be available for cheaper even if he'll play good for them in CL (unless he'd sign a new contract with them which is probably unlikely).

But for now just concentrate on developing Fati and Pedri this season and maybe Ilaix can join them next year.

I'm more wondering why Chelsea would loan him out. They need all the help they can get in defense.

Chelsea are on fire this transfer window though. The only team spending big. Havertz and Chilwell are both close and Thiago Silva will apparently also sign with them on a free transfer. Not spending any money last year because of transfer ban probably helped them but OTOH they probably also still lost a lot of money due to corona like other teams. I'm no expert on their finances but they surely wouldn't spend money they don't have. We're the only club doing that. :lol:

RW: Dembel?, Trincao

LW: Fati, Coutinho, Pedri
CF: CF, Griezmann

For this season get a RB, that can grow and start next year. A LB that will take over Alba next year.
And a top CF.

For next year, slowly get rid of Semedo, Piqu?, Busquets, Alba. Maybe S. Roberto and Coutinho. Dembele as well, if his healthy will continue to be shit.
Bring Garc?a free, if Todibo or Araujo are not good enough. And one or 2 top wingers.
I do not have much faith, if any, in Dembele's health, but for this season we're kind of stuck with him. Coutinho as well, he's a mental midget.
I wasn't a fan of bringing Griezmann, but with Messi gone, I think he will perform much better.

One of the safer options. Prefer Eduoard. Same scored rate, more assists. Better on the ball. Great style matchup
