Thing with this season is, we should accept teething problems. At least 4/5 of first 11 need changing and chances of all the replacements being successful straight away is 0%. Hope Koeman has the balls to do it and stick to it if it starts looking ugly.

I understand it but what happens when we lose possession in the opponent's half? I suppose you'd say we're playing really high up the pitch and so they'd be forced to hit it long

The 3-5-2 teams usually dominate the midfield with the extra player and use wide players (could be wingers or wide or outside midfield like Coutinho) to exploit attacking space. You could use a defensive triangle or attacking triangle (the formation I have put). The 3-5-2 is a complex setup, not straight forward like 4-3-3, 4-4-2 and you will need an experienced wide midfielder more than young winger to make it work.

Estupi??n and Nouri are options for the full-back positions. For the midfield spot, Bar?a cannot afford Van de Beek or Fabi?n so they'll have to look for an alternative. [md]

mine would be Upamecano (get Garcia for free next season), Dest, Angelino (love his crosses), Camavinga/ Soumare/ Aouar/ Donny in that order and a LW (never watched Thuram, but he seems quite good on paper, of course)

A bit like Rijkaard's first season. Barca were actually 12th going into January but recovered to 72 points and runners up.

That team needed a big rebuild and it was Ronaldinho and Davids (from Jan) that made the big impact. Iniesta was promoted and got game time. Valdes became number 1 keeper. Marquez and Van Bronckhorst part of the new defence. Quaresma signed.

3-5 signings need to come in for the first team and do well and a couple of youngsters (Fati/Puig) to join a new look Barca, maybe Coutinho back and hopefully Dembele available. It might just be the jolt the oldies who stay needed.

You have a really good memory. Davids was a huge boost for the club back then. The team improved a lot with his aggression and energy. Laporta was under immense pressure but gradually the team improved. They even managed to beat Madrid in the Bernabeu iirc. Nice memories.

I checked Wikipedia for the ins and outs that year but remember the huge boost Davids gave that January and that really helped Ronaldinho, Maequez and the team kick on. Quaresma never worked out but the others did eventually.

I remember reading in Graham Hunter's book about how Cruyff kept saying to Laporte that if you stay patient Rijkaard will deliver. Most presidents would have sacked him before the turnaround and it would have been back to square one.
