I think he excels physically but is prone to making errors defensively; offensively he doesn't offer that much. Bumbling and not high football IQ.

Doesn't strike me as a Barca type of player, but we will see.

Yea, but I don't mind that. Even most of the top teams usually have 2-3 players who are non-standouts but hard workers and strong athletically. Emerson looks like a Chelsea rotational player.

If he'll use his strength well and do well defensively in 1 vs 1, as well as come up with some good crosses, and be overall fast, he'll help. Roberto does neither. Is slow, weak in 1 vs 1, and thinks he's a star now.

Something tells me that after all the talk and hype that we will have this 11 next season

Depay-Aguero-Messi
Pedri-Busi-deJong
Alba-Eric-Pique-Roberto
-Mats-

I bet even Sevilla and Villarreal would finish above us with that starting lineup.

Either sign a close to WC or WC CB even if it costs a lot or don't sign anyone at all. We already have three project CBs now in our team. Don't need any more. Pau doesn't fit that since he's established himself in La Liga and more or less for Spain too, but I just simply don't rate him and willing to bet 50 bucks it's going to end up similarly as with Lenglet. On the look for someone better within 2-3 years.

Our problem is that we never try to go for a big signing in our defence. We pour hundreds of millions on misfits in midfield and attack, but god forbid if we ever try to sign someone that would improve our defence like van Dijk or Dias did for Liverpool and City.

This defence *need* a leader. It need someone who will immediately establish himself as the best CB in the team.

It does not need the copy of Clement Lenglet or Victor Lindelof.

I don't disagree with you but I still don't know who our potential VVD or Dias could be? Was Virgil close to WC before he signed for L'pool? I remember quite a lot of people saying they've overpaid for him. And don't know how many people rated Ruben Dias before last year and expected him to make immediate impact at City. I mean, Pep has bought what, 6-7 CBs for a combined close to 300m or something before he struck a gold with Dias.

We can't afford to do that but there are no proven WC CBs we could realistically sign so we'll eventually have to take a risk with someone if we want to at least have a chance to improve. Otherwise we can keep status quo and do nothing but hope that Araujo will stay fit and continue to improve and/or that Garcia will be as good as La Masia cultists believe he is.

I know you like MDL but he'd surely command a world record transfer fee for a CB if Juve would even consider selling (which I doubt). It's very unlikely we'd invest that much even in normal situation but now it's impossible. So who else do you think we should be looking at?

Would have strongly considered Upamecano....alas....

Maybe we should take a swing at someone like Koulibaly for 2-3 years if we can get him for cheap.

I just won't like signing someone like Pau Torres. At all. The only CB in La Liga I would consider is Kounde.

We should go for Rafa Mir. He has one year left on his contract at Wolverhampton.
Have there ever been rumors of him coming back after his time in La Masia? Certainly a better option than Ag?ero.

We were linked a month or so back to Rafa Mir, along with Atletico Madrid.

He would be a better off the bench option than Braithwaite. Can see him at Atleti. Simeone kind of player and they are not shy in signing strikers.

So from todays game it was clear that we lacked couple of things including:

- Creativity: Messi will solve this if he stays.

- Scoring Ability: Messi and Aguero will solve this as long as we do not depend on crossing balls, but would be fantastic if we can actually get a tall classical backup striker that can actually play football... either a promising talent or an old veteran.

- Defensive Ability: RB and LB were weak defensively and if we keep Alba, we need a good defensive RB .. not sure if Emerson is good defensively but we have Mingueza and maybe we can try Eric Garcia for few games at RB

- Mobility: Busquets suffered in the first half when there was a lot of space in the center while De Jong looked like a truly athlete in his comfort zone .. we need another workhorse that can play in double pivot formation or CDM with lots of open spaces

- Coherency: This has to do with the formation and selection being weak and a good manager will resolve this. If Koeman stays he is capable of building the synergy as he did this season

This is a solid lineup and formation imo if its a defensive workhouse we buy instead of Busquets and a better RB

Leo Jardim (26) is an option to strengthen Bar?a's goalkeeping position. Jardim plays for Portuguese club Boavista (on loan from Lille). Deco offered Jardim to the technical secretary, who would arrive for free and with an Italian passport. His contract ends June 30th [sport]
