Even before Alves, we didn't have a real good RB then.
Zambrotta was solid but he really underperformed there, Billetti and Oleguer were the weak link in the team, Reiziger wasn't that good either. Probably only the year or two we had of Puyol at that position was the only good years of RB not named Alves in 25 years of being a Barca fan

Funny enough Douglas had a good season with Sivasspor, which earned him the move to Besiktas only for him to eventually be told to stay home while they pay his wages and not register him for any competitions.
