I think the club just wants to get someone so we can manage/limit Fati's minutes a bit to not overburn him by playing him every game.

2020/21 squad:

LW: Dembele/ Fati
CF: Suarez/ Griezmann
RW: Messi/ Trincão

CAM: Coutinho/ Rafinha/ Alena/ Pedri
CCM Vida/ Rakitic/ Arthur/ Fernandes/ Puig
CDM: Busquets/ FDJ/ O. Busquets

LB: Alba/ Firpo/ Cucu
LCB: CL/ Umtiti
RCB: Pique/ Todibo
RB: Roberto/ Semedo/ Wague

GK: MTS/ Neto

30 players; we have a lot to do. I do not think it is wise to get an unnecessary additional player.

I think we should take the L this season and not sign anyone. Instead, let us start planning for next season!

Cucu and Oriol won't be here by August 1st, Cucu 6M buy option will be paid by Getafe for sure. He is undisputed starter for team that is currently 3rd in Liga. Arguably one of their better performer. 6M is way below his transfer market value. Oriol is also undisputed starter in Twente, enjoying first division experience at decent league and he has one extra year left in his contract. We will find a way to get some money for him and let him go.

Rafinha will be tough to let go, but it will happen hopefully. Puig/Alena/Wague/Todibo are sort of youth players that we will either loan or keep a couple of them if we need it. Won't surprise me if we let go all 4 of them. Pedri is highly anticipated but he won't be here next year. Likely staying in LP or for another Liga team.

That is likely 6 players out from the loaned/youth players. Moving our squad to 24.
Then we will likely kick some veterans out, with Raki & Vidal being the prime candidates for that, so 22. Then some would be sold depending on purchases (Semedo for example if we go for a RB)
Oh, and almost forget about the likes of Coutinho & Dembele. Unlikely both will be here next season, at least one will be out. so 21.

Getting a back up striker now won't hurt that much in squad spots next season. But if he isn't Barca level then we have another player to remove during next summer or after next election.

I don't think we will really have a big problem with crowded squad. Right now we have only 18 players in our squad and that is including injured Suarez & Dembele. 19 if you include Fati (who should play some Barca B games next year if we signed a Suarez replacement, especially if Barca B get promoted)

Biggest wild cards planning squad next year are Fernandez & Trincao. I don't know how good they are but if they can be at least good bench players (Fernandez replacing Vidal, Trincao being upgrade over C.Perez) then we have a good portion of our work cut in summer.

Then it's better to give minutes to Collado or Roberto than wasting some millions for a player the club only needs for 3 months.

Tello and Isaac Cuenca also had a positive impact under Pep. Look how their career developed. Not good enough to be a starter at a decent La Liga club (I'm well aware of Cuenca's injury history) but good enough to fill a role under a coach with a clear system. Collado isn't worse than Tello or Cuenca were.

I don't disagree with your point, I'm just saying our forward depth (both in the first team and Barça B) is extremely thin and if we suffer one or two more injuries both Setien (and even more so Pimienta with Setien calling up all his players) will need to do some serious magic when making squad selections.

Also, I think the club might believe whoever we'll bring now will still have a role to play next season. We'll see but maybe we plan to loan Trincao and think L.Perez or whoever this versatile forward is can be our 5th/6th forward option. Or we will actually move on from Suarez and bring Lautaro so we'd have something like:

LW: Griezmann, Fati
ST: Lautaro, Griezmann, Perez
RW: Messi, Trincao, Perez

With all of them versatile enough to play multiple positions which would also allow us to use different formations. I'm not really counting on Dembele anymore because we'll probably try to get rid off him but if he'll stay he'll most likely again be out injured for most of the season.

We can’t wait until summer. Another injury or two and we’re screwed.

Can you tell me please how will a player like for example Angel (a 33y old backup from fucking Getafe) contribute to this team? If we can't get anyone decent we shouldn't buy anyone. Do you honestly think that a player of his qualities will be important addition to this squad? Or that a player like Anglel will contribute against Real or some top teams in CL? Be serious! It's better to save the money and prepare for the next season than to buy another Boateng and burn 15 mil on a player who will probably play a maximum of 7 or 8 games against easier opponents.

A couple more injuries and we could be looking at fighting for Europa league spots. That’s how serious it can get! If we can get Perez or Angel we should do it.

Gabriel from Lille is also a CB we should look at. Him and Salisu are two great young options. RM are after them both, they will probably get one of them.

Oh stop panicking please. And if we get couple more injuries Angel will be the player who will save the season for us!?!? Like Boateng did last season??? Unnecessary panicking leads to even worse situation in the long run no to mention money burning that comes as a consequence.

Dude the way I see it we need all the help we can get. We have zero depth at this point and we’re not in a position to cherry pick better players. It’s true Angel and Perez are far from ideal but they aren’t bums either. I like your optimism btw.
