Mathieu has been class for Valencia the past season and a half.

He has everything you would want from a Barca CB.

Assuming there is no rapid decline this is a solid signing even if a bit expensive.

Don't you think you're overrating him with the claim that he's everything you'd want from a Barca CB?

No. I think he ticks all the boxes as he has pace, good on ball and comfortable defending one on one when pulled into full back areas etc.

Edgar Ie is nowhere near ready. Would rather over pay for Mathieu than promote a player not near ready.

Bartra will be 3rd CB. Mathieu 4th and 2nd choice LB.

If Lucho picks players on merit then he might even be a starter if he is great form. Thats why signing Mathieu + someone quite good makes sense. Mathieu is only a short term solution albeit an expensive one and can cover two positions and is solid.

Bartra is only 23. He has many good years ahead of him.

20 million is nothing in today's market. If he does well and we get 3-4 good years out of him then he's undoubtedly worth it. Also take into consideration that he can cover the left back position as well.

He's 30 and a very solid and fast defender. Calm down.

Good centre back are rare nowadays. 20m is not that bad in todays market.

Well, if he was bad, it would be stupid to sign him. Being 31, he can still give us 2-3 good seasons. I don't understand why so many are outraged by the amount, it was a sure thing they'd have to overspend when signing cb's. Stupid would have been paying 40-50 for someone like Luiz, and this could had happened.
