Every player has some flaws in his game, even Messi (penalties :)).

It's undestandable a young player at 21 is not a finished product yet, especially not at a difficult position like CB where every mistake can be crucial. Fans tend to forgive quicker if Messi or Suarez misses a sitter then when Pique or Mascherano made a mistake that lead to opponent chance/goal.

Even Puyol at 21 was not the same player as Puyol at 28 with all his experience. Whichever young CB we'll get he'll make mistakes and have bad games here and there. But he has to be mentally strong to get over them quick. That's one of the things we should consider when buying CB. Personally I don't have favourites but I watched a lot more of Athletic than Everton games so that's maybe why I'd be more comfortable with us signing Laporte than Stones (and because he's already adapted to La Liga and knows language). I just hope we make the right decision so we'd have a good partner for Pique for 4-5 years and also one CB spot covered for the next 8-10 years.

About LB: what do you think about Javi Manquillo? He's been a RB before, but this season he plays at LB for Marseille. I only watched him in derby against PSG and think he was solid. There were rumours when we sell Villa to Atletico that we get first option on Manquillo. Simeone doesnt' seem to like him too much (this could change of course because both Filipe Luis and Juanfran are already 30 and they don't have any real good backup for them) and if they are ready to sell, should we take him for a reasonable price? He's only 22 and can be a cover for Alba and then in a year or two when Alves leave he can also play RB.

Talking about Atleti players... I know we don't need him right now but if we could somehow get Oliver Torres I'm all for that. Some of his moves are really Xavi-esque.

I think the need for a CB in the summer is mainly duo to Bartra expected departure .unless we get a CB who is comfortable playing as CB we need our 5 CBs as I mentioned few posts ago

Maybe if Borja López does really well for the B team and gets a few minutes with the first team later this season or in pre-season, he could be that fifth CB option for us.

Where do you see him playing for us though?

Borja is 22 years old player who failed to even get a regular place on the bench of a mid-table team in Portugal . I am not sure I would want him anywhere near the 1st team

If he does well enough for the B team and is rewarded with chances in the first team—which is a big "if" of course—I can't say I'd care at all about his situation at his past clubs, just as I don't care how many clubs Aleix Vidal didn't make it at.

If you're looking at top early 20s players Barca would want for now in the squad and in the future first XI it'd be similar to:

De Gea

Bellerin
Laporta
Marquinhos
Ricky Rodrigues

Pogba
Veratti
Koke

Dybala
Martial
Hazard

But that type of established young talent will already come under a huge premium (look what United paid for Martial) and we need to be looking to sign the next Dybala, Pogba and Marquinhos and developing the next Bellerin at La Masia before you're paying 60 million for it.

That part takes skill, intelligence and knowledge. Paying 60m for a player a 6 years old can see he's great takes neither of those 3 things. It's a fool-proof tactic.

We tried to sign the next Alves and we got ourselves a Douglas. What are we even talking about here?

That is like saying If Gumbau improved big time he should be promoted .
If anyone does well enough with B team he should be with get his chance with 1st team regardless his previous situation. it is totally random to mention Borja tbh

We got Halilovic & D.Suarez too
All are still young and could prove their worth tbh ,and I respect the approach and don't find a reason we shouldn't continue with it . will be interesting to see what Robert does though

Halilovic and Suarez were bottom stage in terms of age and development. By comparison, Neymar was last stage. We need more options in between. Dybala for example was a middle stage when was signed by Juve. Marquinhos when was signed by PSG was also middle stage. The process of development was well in motion, but not exactly complete.

That is the player we should sign. Max. 2 years away from starting in the first team.

Alexis Sanchez is an example of a middle-stage developed young player we have signed lately. Very similar to Juventus signing Dybala.

Douglas the next Alves? He was laughed at in Sao Paulo and Douglas thought it was a joke when he heard about interest from us.
