But don't you think Lucho would use him there - he is not natural winger, but neither is Turan or Rafinha?

He may just as he used Munir & Sandro there despite not being wingers, doesn't mean it's apples to apples. Turan has played on the wing at Atletico but he is not a classical winger by any stretch - neither is Rafinha who has been played in a variety of positions. Denis is versatile and seems to have a good head on his shoulders but talent wise he is far below that of Deulofeu who has been been used exclusively as a classical winger (When he's played).

Workrate is what will get Deulofeu back here since everyone recognizes his skill level but not playing certainly doesn't help - a point surely not missed by Martinez

You are right - maybe they can't be compared directly. Surely, it would be better for us if one of our natural classical wingers proved Barca-quality right now. That way we wouldn't have to play someone 'out of position' like the case would be with Denis. It would be better to bring a on-a-roll Deulofeu who would accept his backup-role, playing the easier games, or a more experienced Halilovic (at least one more season). But that scenario is at least one season from now.

Bringing Denis back only to use him as midfield-backup would be strange IMO, although he wouldn't be the ideal winger for us either.

I posted on previous page already.
Anyway, Vrsaljko plays sometimes for Croatian NT.
He can play both as a RB and a LB.

He is extremely fast, he is strong, he can run (up and down) for days.
Defensively, he is a good tackler.
If that is "all" we are looking for (good defense, being very fast), then he is an ok option (he isn't worse that Adriano. Even though, Vrsaljko is better defensively and Adriano is better offensively).

But in offense, Vrsaljko runs down the wing like a headless chicken. When he reaches the corner line, he just hurls a cross into the box and that's it.
I am not sure whether he can play simple shortpasses in our attacking style.
Offensively, he is a classic 442 Rb/Lb for an Italian or English league.

For people who don't know him too much, some clips:

Imo, he is a good tackler and plays like a lion (like a dumb lion, though).
But offensively he is like Montoya, Douglas or Mathieu.

Here are some of his assists in Italian league.
He hurls the ball into the box, and what happens=happens.
And he is repeating the same recipe over and over.

Mathieu is actually pretty decent on attack when at LB.

Anyway, does Vrsaljko look like he could add to his footballing "IQ" if he trains with Barca? He can hurl the ball right now yes, but Sassulo used to have Zaza, and Croatia NT has Mandzu, who are both good in the air, so hurling it in the middle is actually a decent option imo. Maybe it's the managers decision? And a fast, good tackling RB/LB is exactly what we need imo, the attacking part can be upgraded.

I know it is speculation, but what do you think we could cash in from selling players?
It is relevant to make a judgement about it because it will tell us at the very least if we should rule out galactico-signings like Pogba and Dybala this summer (which I hope we can rule out). Even our board seems to know that a CB is top-priority, and it doesn't seem likely they will sign cheap, young no-names for that position.

I imagine it would be safe to say that at least the following players would leave us:
  • Sandro (left out of the squad nearly every game, now injured)
  • Maybe Munir (has been very unstable, and couldn't be trusted to decide games like against Villanovese, which is a requirement for a MSN-backup)
  • Bartra (No playing time under Enrique not even the easiest of matches)
  • Vermaelen (Surely not trusted by Enrique)
  • Song (Contract 2017)
  • Tello (Contract 2018 - rumour said 8m. buy-option for Fiorentina)
  • Montoya (Contract 2018 - rumour said 7m. buy-option for Inter)

I wouldn't be sure that we can sell Adriano, if he wants to go to China in January 2017 as rumoured. We might pay to make Douglas leave, and Halilovic would most likely go out on new loan-deal, I would imagine. Maybe we won't get anything for Song either, it could end in another loan - else we would have cashed in already? Same goes for Tello and Montoya.

All that said maybe a 40 m. revenue wouldn't be too far out?
(5m. Sandro, 10 m. Munir, 12m. Bartra, 8 m. Vermaelen and 5m. from either Song, Tello, Montoya or Adriano)

Maybe it is far out - what are your judgement? :)

I think Munir will stay. Bartra and Vermaelen should go, no idea for how much. I don't think Song will get us any money. Tello and Montoya will probably be loaned until their contracts run out.

Tello is Messi for Munir IMO (I'll regret that Wenger's 30 M offer 'till the rest of my life-if it was true). Sell him and Sandro and Adriano and Bartra and Douglas And Montoya and all others that can't contribute properly.

Buy quality Winger/CF who would be happy to be part of Barca grandness, decent young LB and world class CB. We should have enough cash for that.

Serbia is European and World champion in categories under 19 and 21, maybe there are some players with potential there? I would realy like to see Serb in Barca, it is so long since:

So, I see no emergencies requiring important squad additions this summer. This would change if any key players leave, and one or two probably will (Busquets and Ter Stegen?). Some of the deep backup guys should change, same as every summer, but these jobs just are not that important.

Thank god if this is true, our youth scouting has been nonexistent while clubs like Chelsea buy dozens of promising youngsters!

I get what you are saying though D.Suarez & Halilovic was good buy and both right now are worthy a lot more than what we paid for them.
But I think huge part of it was duo to La Masia success .we really didn't need to look outside with La Masia doing wonders .but with a reality check for the academy we are now set to make this approach .
