Oh come on. Even Montoya is better than Micah Richards. Just because he's gonna be free this summer doesn't mean he's worth signing.

Never said Montoya wasn't better just saying take a look at all the clubs at our level and show me one who uses a player like Montoya as their starting right back.

A random list of top clubs. . Pick out one Montoya is better than ATM.

Man City : Zaballeta
Liverpool: Johnson
Madrid:Carvajal
Man Utd: Rafael / Jones
Bayern: Lahm
Chelsea: Ivanovic
Arsenal: Sagna

He's not good enough for the starting berth and I don't think he's better than any of the names you listed, except maybe Rafael or Walker. He was better than Carvajal before, but Carvajal has improved as a result of game time.

We should keep Alves and try to blood in a young rightback. Whether that means giving Montoya more time, buying Danilo, Aurier, or De Sciglio; or promoting Ie, Godswill or Campins, I don't know.

Speaking of fullbacks, I'm really impressed with Ricardo Rodriguez, but sadly I think he's only ever played at left back.

All I'm saying is that instead of playing Alves every game, we should look to prepare for the future. Given a string of starts I'm sure Montoya can get back to the form he showed during the early parts of the 2012-2013 season. It's either give Montoya the starting berth and hope he picks up his game or invest time in another youngster who can hold down that rightback position for the next 5-6 (at least) seasons. Sticking with Dani Alves is not, MO, an option.

Commendations on not letting your emotions get the better of you. Well spoken!

To the other posters as regarding my list. Here's a famous quote : " Emotions precede thought and reason" .

Montoya being better Jallet and carvajal? we are talking UCL quater/ finalists here!

as their starting right back.

Montoya isn't our starting right back, so I don't see how that analogy is applicable... But for the record, he's just plain better than Johnson, Jones, and Jallet, and is probably better than almost all of them at the role we require from our fullbacks.

That was in reference to you guys calling for him to be Dani's replacement. . . BTW, I agree with you, yeah he is so good he has played under 3 coaches so far and none of them has ever had confidence in him. . . Speaks VOLUMES. Just the same way everyone said Fontas would one day pair Pique. . . look what happened, you lot are comical.

I suppose that does say a lot doesn't it. Nobody ever mentions that. I really think we ought to send Montoya out on loan and give Ie, Godswill, or Campins a chance to shine in his place.

In my opinion, most of these players would be worse than Montoya given the pretense that they all get the same amount of playing time, but you can't compare a starter to someone who barely reaches double digits in appearances over a whole season despite being fit.

Just as a reminder, Carvajal who many here see as one of the best RB in the world was only 2nd RB behind none other than Montoya. It all depends on the context and if you can't see that Montoya has at least as much talent as most of the players on your list then I don't know what to say really.

Most clubs you've listed would gladly trade their RB for Montoya. I mean, come on... Johnson, Rafael, Walker, Lichtsteiner, Abate? they're not even world class

Yeah Pep had such little confidence in Montoya that he played him in the Copa final when he was only 20 (by the way, he was one of the best in that game). The only comical one here is you.

Why loan Montoya and strip the team of defensive depth. They're not deep at all as it is, loaning a capable player doesn't strike me as smart.

While IMO Montoya hasn't earned an undisputed starting spot, he has shown enough to merit being first choice backup RB with at least a dozen starts and twice as many total appearances next season.

Barcelona should find a young RB with talent and showing good promise, and bring him over and allow him and Montoya to battle for a regular starting spot. If the steam strengthens the other areas of the defense, midfield and offense, they might be able to get away with allowing the two young RBs to learn on the job and may the best one win.

We better close some deals soon, especially the CBs ones.

Chelsea, Bayern, RM(as usual), PSG, Monaco, too many clubs will be heavily involved this summer and therefore it's absolutely vital that we got things in place BEFORE the World Cup.
