Especially since 27 is the prime age for a CB :zubi:

And no sell-on value. If he flops or get a serious injury, we will release him on a free transfer after 3 years, like we did with Gabi Milito and basically did with David Villa.

Benatia cost 13m a year ago as a 26 year old, and now we try to get him for 30m. Its not smart.

he's worth the money. at this point we need a proven player and you get what you pay for, we might not get the money back but we get the value of him on the pitch for hopefully five good years.

even dv7 was worth the cash, key player in our 2011 season, shame about his injury.

It's a special circumstance and a deep necessity, but they better get their shit together. You can't be buying players for 30M when the year before the selling team bought the same player for 13M. It doesn't look good and makes the team look foolish and incompetent.

You can't legislate for injuries, and he isn't injury-prone as far as I know.

If he is the player that effectively gets us back to making a serious challenge on all fronts, then he'll be worth it.

You should know by now - when it comes to transfers, we don't do smart.

I agree but what's done is done. We need a CB like Benatia and there is no other choice but to splash the money on him. In the future, the board should look for good and cheap players but for now we don't have any other option.

The same was said about Gabi Milito, Ibrahimovic and Villa. We paid 130m for those. More than Atletico Madrid have spent in the last 10 years. They were so-called proven class players that were supposed to be worth the outrageous money for years to come. One good season for Villa means 40m+3*11m=73m and it is outrageous. That type of money should only be reserved for superstars that can play for a decade. Not a single good season!

nobody knew dv7 would be injured. he was a perfect player before then. nobody knew milito would be injured either. as for ibra, he was quality. i didn't think he'd do well and he did. but we know personal problems can't be anticipated.

Actually we can. A serious injury is far worse for players approaching 30 than for 22 year olds in general. Thats why it is even more outrageous to pay the money we did for players like Milito, Villa and Ibra.
